ACCESSORIES REPORT: Don’t Hate on the Hat

The baseball hat has been a street style staple for years. However, this summer it’s getting a makeover! Forget donning your favorite sports team, the current baseball hat trend is all about cool colors, embellishments and making your hat the centerpiece of your look. The funky trend has been seen on the runways of top designers like Max Azria and has also been wildly popular with celebrities like Rihanna and Gwen Stefani. So I mean- what isn’t there to like about this trend?

We spotted this Fashionista out rocking her baseball hat on a sunny day around campus. She paired her black and grey OBEY hat with white sneakers, high-waisted jean cut-offs and a rolled up American flag T-shirt. She also added some chain necklaces and an oversized black and gold studded bag to give her look an over all laid back feel. This Fashionista made her hat a pivotal point in her outfit by choosing a hat with neutral colors. The black and grey in her hat not only coordinated with her side bag, but also stood out against her bold T-shirt, making her look both effortless and pulled together.

Another great aspect about this trend is how versatile it is. This Fashionista rocked her cap with an ensemble of casual attire, but there are plenty of other ways to wear the look. One of my favorite ways is a little dressier. I have this super daring black a gold studded hat from ASOS. I like to pair that with black skinny jeans, a colored leather jacket and heels of some variety to create a new take on your traditional going out look. However, the possibilities with this trend really don’t end. Topshop has an Aztec printed hat that would be a great piece to liven up a simple outfit of neutral colored clothing. Baseball hats works with nearly any look so don’t be afraid to experiment and add your own personal fashion touches to it.

There is no arguing that this look is super cool. It is easy to dress up or dress down and it has the approval of some of the hottest celebrities and designers. So we might have borrowed the baseball trend from the boys, but we surely aren’t planning on giving it back anytime soon!
