Lately, I have been hearing recurring minimalist messages from the beauty world. Things such as a “no make-up make-up look” and “work with your natural hairstyle” among others. Essentially, less is more. This argument can also apply to fashion, particularly in the form of wearing patterns. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate people that have mastered the art of mixing different prints, such as Jenna Lyons, Solange Knowles or Olivia Palermo. However, for the rest of us mere mortals, this style can be slightly more difficult to achieve. I spotted a Fashionista who effectively incorporated pattern into an everyday summer look.
Designs that feature crosses have been popping up on clothing items of all shapes and sizes this season. On their own, repetitive cross prints have a tendency to give off a slightly punk inspired vibe. However, when the motif is combined with a soft lilac colour on a light shift dress, the result is a standout, easy to wear piece that will carry you from class to dinner with friends and is great for a sunny day. This Fashionista chose to go with black leggings on bottom to anchor her look and a gray braided belt to cinch the dress at the waist. She opted for several fun accessories including a fun mint colored watch as a statement item, along with her arrow wrapped bangle, an assortment of rings, a grey textured bag and tan lace-up sandals.
Are you interested in adding some pattern into the mix of your own wardrobe? A good idea is to start with one, like this stylish lady did here. This rhinestone cross top is a great piece to build on. If you want to try the cross trend in a more demure way, have a look at some accessories, such as this beanie, cross over cuff bracelet, two band cross ring or cross ear cuff.
Spotted: At Versace‘s fall 2012 ready-to-wear show, Gothic elements such as crosses came back with a vengeance and have been gaining popularity ever since.
