ACCESSORIES REPORT: California Dreamin’

With the announcements of Bonnaroo, Coachella and spring break in Miami (for me, at least), everyone has been feeling the winter itch. February is that time in between winter and spring where you’re on the brink. Winter’s winding down, but it's not quite spring yet. Dreaming of California or Florida weather is the only way to make it through the rest of the winter gloom. Therefore, while some of the winter clothes stay on our bodies, we can get a preview of spring by adding bright knit accessories.

On one of the grayest days of the year, complete with rain and wind, I spotted this Fashionista on her way back from class. To deal with the winter rain, she chose Tory Burch rain boots, an Urban Outfitters shirt, American Apparel leggings and an Andrew Marc parka. However, this California girl chose a Mexican knit bag, found at a flea market, to remind her of what’s in store for the months to come. It also brightens up her winter outfit.

It’s easy to achieve that spring brightness in a winter outfit by adding one simple accessory. A bright bag, like the Tory Burch Robinson tote, is a bold pop to a dark outfit. Soft colored flats are great for the in between time when it’s too warm for boots. For a true springtime look, a knit bag adds the bohemian touch to a bundled, classic look. Finally, if it is simple too cold to break out of your routine, the best way to pray for April showers is this classic Henri Bendel umbrella. Just remember, spring break is right around the corner. Keep telling yourself that in between studying for your midterms.
