At American University it’s always about business, business, business. Any day of the week you can find some of the student body decked out in business attire, ready to rock that interview or presentation. But it’s time throw conventionality out the door: black or blue blazer I may love you, but for now get at me, color!
I found this Fashionista on her way to class wearing the perfect mustard blazer. She completely caught my eye while walking down the quad. I love how bold her blazer is and how it makes her pop from the crowd. As spring nears, color is kicking into overdrive and Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike are catching on.
I love how this Fashionista took a typically conventional article of clothing and matched it with not so conventional high-waisted shorts. Instead of donning a typical suit, she mixed it up pairing a structured blazer with playful bottoms. The bow on her shorts is the perfect addition and centralizes her whole ensemble. Her blouse under her blazer adds just the right amount of pattern and gives her outfit more pizzazz. It also enhances the color of her shorts.
Blazers can seem restricting and formal, but as we can see it is completely possible to turn conventionality into originality. Whether it be an eye-catching color, or perhaps pairing different types of clothing like a blazer and shorts, we are able to redefine a somewhat conservative style piece into our own creation. Innovation is key, and this Fashionista is taking us a step in the right direction.
Spotted: Leave it to Betsey Johnson to make an even bigger twist on the conventional blazer by adding exaggerated shoulder pads and floral print on the spring 2009 runway.
