ACCESSORIES REPORT: Dauntless Daisy Dukes

Despite window displays in the city and my religious reliance on Vogue, “denim on denim” is a phrase that I can’t seem to think without having nightmarish flashbacks of Hillbilly Bob or Brit and JT’s infamous display on the red carpet.  This Fashionista has given me hope.

Pairing a denim vest with a colored jean short is a combination that is very city-chic and totally not something Johnny Cash would have ever worn. A vest is the perfect summer accessory: a humidity-friendly version of a cardigan. Try a cropped denim vest in a bold color or a light-wash denim. The vest opposite bold, red shorts is daring without venturing past the fine line of city-cool to backyard barnyard.

Not only did today’s Fashionista rock the denim on denim flawlessly, but she also extended her accessory style in her sandals and clutch. They are both color-blocked with shades of cream and tan, an understated combination that complements the rest of her outfit. The most important note to take away: the accessories don’t match, but they go (Thanks, What Not to Wear!).

There are tons of awesome two-toned sandals out in both nuetral and crazy colors. Clutches also can add boldness to an outfit: try this navy and orange one by Marc Jacobs with these two-toned Pollini sandals for a spin-off of this Fashionista's subtle coloring. You can take the two-toned shoe style to your night style by wearing wedges, like these pink and teal ones. This envelope clutch can also be dressed up for the weekends.

Spotted: BCBG's fall 2012 collection shows many two-tone color options in both neutral and bold colors.
