ACCESSORIES REPORT: Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Recently, I can’t get enough of yellow! I generally feel like a bumblebee when I combine the bright color with my predominantly black wardrobe, but as we fade into a season of chunky knits and statement scarves, I’ve noticed just how much I’m loving the color. Little pieces here and there, such as costume earrings or a vibrant clutch, can automatically add a cheerful tone to the most basic of outfits and in a sea of fall’s darker neutrals, yellow proves to be a key color to invest in.

Today’s Fashionista, Sophie, exemplifies casual chic. With a loose bun, denim button-down and muted shorts, Sophie opts for just a subtle splash of color by incorporating citrus-hued sneakers for an exciting punch.  She proves that there’s absolutely no need to go all out; a little color can go a long way, especially where brights are involved, and a dose of yellow can play up the energy of any outfit without going overboard.

For the color-adverse Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there, never fear! Bright and colorful accessories, whether just lemon nail polish or a buttery scarf, are an amazing starting point to gussy up a more neutral ensemble, and act as baby steps into a more exuberant world. There can be such thing as too much of a good thing, however, so be sure to partner your yellow accents with subdued tones, such as camel or gray.

Spotted: Yellow packs a punch on the runways of Emilio Pucci, Oscar de la Renta and 3.1 Phillip Lim.
