ACCESSORIES REPORT: Fringe Benefits

There are some things in fashion that are quintessentially fall: suede, rich colors, layers. One big one for me personally is fringe. I don’t know what it is about the weather getting crisper that makes me crave both apple picking and my favorite fringe accessories.

Like me, this Fashionista is enjoying the “fringe” benefits of the change in the season. The detail, which was popular in the ‘60s, is having a fashion revival. While it can be seen on vests and jackets, the easiest way to pull off the fringe look is on a bag. This Fashionista’s bag is the perfect fringe bag. It’s dark brown looks almost black. However, the brown color has a richer feel and is far more appropriate for the season. The long fringe on the bottom adds dimension and movement when this Fashionista is heading to the classroom. The gold detailing is modern and gives a fresh take to this hippie-inspired look. She topped off the look with desert boots and colored skinnies to make sure the bag doesn’t look too costumey.

Fall is upon us and that means indulging in some of favorite fall items. Make sure to treat yourself to some fabulous fringe (and maybe a slice of apple pie, too).

ACCESSORIES REPORT: Fringe Benefits

The fringe trend popped on to the fashion scene last fall and has proven to withstand the test of the seasons throughout the year. Fashionista/os worldwide were caught in everything from fringed moccasins to fringed boots last fall and as the weather warms up, the trend has found a new home further north. Designers like Herve Leger and J.J. Winters introduced fringe bags this spring and now the trend is here to stay.

This Fashionista takes the trend to new lengths with her gravity defying fringed shoulder bag. The length of the fringe automatically brings your eye to her feet that are outfitted in wedged sneakers by Ash. To say that she’s on trend is a bit of an understatement.  Complete with a striped tank top and minimal jewelry, this Fashionista is ready to rip the sidewalks of New York City.

Trying this look out? Go for this fringed bucket bag by House of Harlow. While it’s not the most spacious, it will definitely satisfy your fringe craving. However, if you’re looking for a more fashionable version of a book bag for the fall, try this tan tote bag by Club Monaco; it’s both stylish and practical. Either way, you’ll make huge waves on campus in your stylishly chic fringed bag choice.

ACCESSORIES REPORT: Fringe Benefits

A girl can never have too many purses. That’s how I see it, at least. With so many different styles, there are so many different options. And who wouldn’t love the option of having so much variety and choice when it comes to a bag to go with your outfit?

A purse is something so essential for so many, but something that can also be a great, added accessory, aside from just practicality. There is a range of different kinds to choose from: clutches, shoulder bags, handbags, satchels and hobo bags.

This Fashionista went with a cross-body, fringed, brown leather bag. The tassel on the front is a perfect touch! It’s not too big, and not too small. It is the perfect size for an everyday bag. Inside, you can fit the essentials, along with the not so essential items; books, receipts, junk you collect throughout your days, and literally anything else your heart desires.

The fringe and detailing on the bag turns it into more than just a purse. It becomes part of the outfit. When you’re carrying a solid black bag, it could be worked in as part of a look, but when it’s worn all the time, it generally becomes drowned out as just something extra on your arm. Don’t get me wrong; it’s always good to have that go-to bag to grab when you’re late for class. And, depending on the person, switching out purses can be quite a bit of a hassle. For those of us with the less organized, filled to the brim bags, changing bags isn’t something we do often.

The fringe is also a trend that seems to be all over lately. Fringed bags, similar to this Fashionista’s, were all over the runways a couple of years ago at the 2010 shows. Prada was one of those designers cashing in on the look. We haven’t seen the bags, specifically, recently, but we have seen fringe. Missoni had quite a bit in their spring 2012 collection at Milan Fashion Week.

Want a bag like this of your own? Try Urban Outfitters. They have fringe, along with ombre themed color palettes (another trend hitting the streets lately). Another option for adding some fringe to your wardrobe are fringed boots. These are pretty pricy, but you can find them almost anywhere with a similar look.

Fringe benefits are good benefits!
