ACCESSORIES REPORT: Lusting For Lennons

Spotted in front of the Macdonald Engineering building, a Fashionista who’s finishing off her grungy layered look with a pair of circle shades à la John Lennon. These gold-rimmed and brown ombré-lensed sunglasses offer their wearer a very retro-chic aesthetic.

A pair of old-school folk rock glasses are used here to give their wearer that sort of “dazed and confused” vintage look. These sunnies are a contemporary twist on their 1960s/1970s counterpart with their significantly larger circumference. The circle shade has seen many more faces of history than those of John and Yoko. The ‘80s saw their return on Ozzy Osbourne. Even the mid ‘90s got a hit to match with the decades “anything goes as long as its bold” aesthetic that came phasing out of the last decade.

By the time the ‘00s rolled around, circle shades seemed gone for good. In the final hours of the decade, 2009 sought to redeem them on the runways. Three years later, the fashion has diffused to the streets and the circle lenses are showing up everywhere to match many different trends. They can be bought with thin or thick rims made of plastic, metal or wire, embellished with intricate details and not. They can be retro, glam, or hipster. and come with variety…and plenty of it!

This Fashionista is wearing her Lennons to match her almost hippie-esque outfit as she rocks out some serious layers. She’s sporting a patterned yellow dress, layered with an Urban Outfitters knit cardigan and an American Apparel black hoodie with a NASTY GAL army anorak to finish it off. Even her lower half is layered with a pair of socks on top of her tights tucked into a pair of black suede lace up flats. Layers are a smart way to give new life to old wardrobe items. They’re also the best way to keep warm this time of year. Piled on strategically, layers breed a very cool ‘90s grunge meets today’s hipster kind of look. They can even border on chic and sophisticated if handled with much care. To break up some of the bulk, she finishes her look off with a long gold necklace adorned with a clock emblem.

No matter what styles you subscribe to, there’s a pair out there to help you keep those UV-Rays at bay. Style may be cyclical, but you ought to jump on this trend now while round is still all the rage!

Spotted: Rounds on the fall 2012 ready-to-wear runways of Gucci, Jason Wu, Marni, Carven, Prada, Anna Sui, Alberta Ferretti and Louis Vuitton!
