ACCESSORIES REPORT: Mad Mod

Known for its historically accurate and classy, chic style, the television series Mad Men has made the '60s, and the fashion trends that accompany the decade, come alive once again. Inspired by the award winning show, and the fall 2011 ready-to-wear runway’s most prominent trends, this Fashionista works a mixture of en vogue looks.

Starting with a floral patterned dress, this Fashionista draws attention to her simple yet stylish apparel. Seen in a variety of ways on runways such as Miu Miu and Jil Sander, flowers have proved to surpass spring to brighten up cold autumn and winter days. This Fashionista picked up her frock from H&M, proving that runway styles can be bought, even when on a budget.

Accentuating her vibrant pattern, this Fashionista turned up the heat by staying true to another fall runway trend, the color red. Playing up her '60s glam with a rouge lip, this Fashionista incorporates one of the most highly coveted colors of fall, seen on the runways of Rodarte and Chanel, on celebrities such as Kate Bosworth and Jessica Alba, and even on blogs such as The Man Repeller.

However, what remains the focal point of this Fashionista’s outfit is not her impeccable use of pattern or her accentuating make up to create a complete outfit, but rather her use of gemstones to accessorize. From the bold jewels on her Adrienne Vittadiini ballet flats to her Forever 21 bangle, the coordinating jewels make the entire outfit sparkle. Staying true to the '60s look, Mod style focused on clean cuts and bold jewelry to complete an outfit.

Spotted: Jewels and jewel tones (think ruby or amethyst), as well as Mod accessories have dominated fall 2011 runway shows such as Giambattista Valli, Alberta Ferretti and Louis Vuitton as a statement of '60s glam. Each runway had decade specific accessories that completed the outfit without stealing the show from the garments; Valli utilized patent oxfords, Ferretti bedazzled with sequins and sparkles, and Vuitton stepped ahead with police style caps. Keeping it simple by adding subtle yet significant, and decade appropriate accessories is the perfect way to achieve a Mod, runway-ready look.
