This week’s Fashionista was sporting red hot sunglasses around campus. These are a must have accessory for Fashionistas making the long trek to class. This Fashionista’s shades had an oversized cat eye frame in a bold red color. She wore a playful graphic T-shirt, rose colored skinny jeans and red strappy sandals to finish off her simple yet fun look. Sunglasses are a must have accessory because they can add so much personality to your outfit and they can transition from season to season. There are endless shapes to choose from: cat eye, aviators, round, oversized, square, oval and more. I say, be bold and stand out. Choose a fun and unexpected color when choosing your frames. This week’s Fashionista was right on trend choosing her sunglasses in a bright red.
As I said, sunglasses are one of my favorite accessories. Fashionistas, you can find a great pair no matter what your budget is. This weeks Fashionista found her playful red pair at Urban Outfitters. Here is another pair from Urban Outfitters in a cute heart shape that I love and will fit perfectly into your budget. If you have a little more to spend try these ombre sunglasses from Ray-Ban. If you have an unlimited budget and have the urge to splurge take a look at these oversized shades from Gucci.

There’s nothing I respect more than a bold fashion statement. It’s so easy nowadays to follow all the trends but to get lost in a sea of people with the same mindset. Once in a while I believe that we should go out on a limb and dress to draw attention and what better way to do that than red pants?
This Fashionisto stood out from the rest with his loud pants that practically screamed at me. Red pants are trending in the female fashion world but rarely will you catch a man sporting a daring red. On top of that, this Fashionisto wore red Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes to match his bottoms. I’ve never seen anyone wear red on red like that before and it was so refreshing to see. It definitely shows the versatility of Sperry’s, which can be worn with jeans, bright and neutral colored pants/shorts, and printed bottoms. The classic colors of these shoes are café and navy but I personally adore the red.
To contrast with the loudness of the pants and shoes, this Fashionisto wore a causal gray t-shirt with the Olympics logo to show his support for Team USA. Although the shirt is printed, the colors are almost faded, making it very low-key. Because his top is very neutral, it allows his pants to stand out even more. This technique is the opposite of color blocking, which combines two blatantly contrasting colors to draw even more attention to each distinct color. For those that are hesitant to dress outrageously, start small. Vivid colored shoes are very popular this season and if you’re feeling a bit more risky, add a pair of vibrant colored denim.
Who wears short shorts? We wear short shorts. Shorts have always been a staple of summer, insinuating warm weather and sunny beach days. However, with almost all fashion items transcending seasonal boundaries, it’s no surprise that many pieces, including shorts, are being sported outside their typical zone.
Ranging anywhere from Bermuda to booty, shorts are the perfect way to show off those legs without looking too dressed up. Although jean shorts are typically the summer go-to, this Fashionista adds a splash of personality by choosing colored denim. The vibrant red color screams originality, and paired with the simple white tunic makes for the ideal spring day ensemble. The best part of colored denim, however, is its easy transition from day to night. By switching out the linen top for a dressier silk in a darker hue (and adding heels, of course), this Fashionista is ready for an evening out.
Allowing the red shorts to be the focal piece of the ensemble, this Fashionista accessorizes minimally, with a few gold bangles and a simple pair of moccasins. While shorts have rarely ever been considered an accessory in the past, when sported like this, her colored “jorts” are actually the most important accessory.
Spotted: While basic denim cut-offs have always been a girl’s best friend (after diamonds, of course), Balenciaga, Prabal Gurung and Carven took the shorts of their spring 2012 collections to another level. From silky materials to vibrant patterns, the extra short shorts and pin-up trends will help you turn shorts from conservative to chic.
It was 8am on a Friday morning when I spotted this Fashionista on the same mission I was: to grab a much-needed coffee. The streets were empty, the cafes were empty, Montreal was empty and while looking at the fallen leaves on the ground a shock of ruby caught my eye. It was much to early for bright colors and finding myself in an all grey ensemble, I was surprised by the crimson pop.
In Montreal where blistery winds are all too expected, a scarf is the ideal accessory for maintaining style and warmth. A scarf can make or break an outfit but this Fashionista finds the perfect balance between university prep and classic chic with a scarf that updates the archetype and adds a dash of creativity. This red infinity scarf compliments her preppy ensemble without being too overstated — a flawless fit!
What I love about this look is how classically collegiate it is — blazer, Hunters, and all — but she still makes it her own. “It was chilly today and I knew I needed a scarf but to wear another piece of navy would have been mildly depressing so I chose the red. It still keeps it classic but it’s a bold statement piece that moves the outfit in another direction.”
She’s right, the ruby scarf is the perfect addition to an otherwise entirely blue-hued ensemble and it just so happens that it removes a lot of the preppy undertones of the outfit and replaces them with a cozier feel. If anyone has been keeping up with trends, it’s this Fashionista who obviously realized the major impact red was making at New York Fashion Week this year.
Keep it hot, red hot!
