There is no doubt that socks have made their way back into co-ed fashion. On campus I mostly have seen Fashionistas emulating Blair Waldorf’s skirt and high sock combinations from earlier episodes of Gossip Girl. The preppy look is flattering but I always prefer to be cozy when the Boston cold comes to town.

This Fashionista caught me off guard during a team meeting I was in the other day. She twisted the classic Alicia Silverstone look from Clueless and made it her own casual look, perfect for studying. Instead of pairing her socks with a pleated skirt, she chose to wear leggings to dress the look down. Instead of making her socks be the focal point of her outfit she chose to have them peeking out of her mocha combat, lace-up boots. The frilly fabric on the top of her socks adds a hint of feminine flair to her dark toned ensemble.

To adopt this style as your own put on a pair of leggings, a chunky cable knit sweater and find a pair of cute socks to pair with your mid-length boots. Try this pair of Urban Outfitters knit patterned socks and scrunch them down right above your boot. If you’d like to try something different, put on a pair of these polka-dot Free People ankle socks and pair them with oxfords. Socks are something we usually overlook because they are an everyday item — find a pair that deviates from the classic white and you’ll be warm and stylish all day!
