ACCESSORIES REPORT: The Old Hat Trick

ECU’s Fashionista of the week is a clear master of putting an outfit together. As she stood out amongst her peers on a randomly chilly summer day, a pleated maxi skirt kept her casually covered up while adding one of the many details that made her outfit noticeably fashionable. She even coordinated her gold necklace with gold sandals. She also carried a cute crossbody bag with lace detail, added a red tank for a pop of color, a belt cinched at the waste to tie it all together and finally, the accessory that literally tops it all off — the good old hat trick.

This is not in reference to a magic trick per se, but a great hat can work wonders. These accessories come in a variety of styles wide enough for us to experiment and complete outfits with.  They are not restricted to bad hair days, but can instead add an instant touch of style. Try a straw fedora like this Fashionista’s, or explore the possibilities with a floppy sun hat, bowler hat, or even a printed baseball cap. Try not to let your hats get lost in a sea of accessories or ignore them until a rainy day comes around. They of course help block the sun during the summer, add a print or extra texture to your look, and best of all, become that finishing touch.

Spotted: Chanel Iman donned a classic fedora in Dsquared² spring 2011 ready to wear runway show.
