ACCESSORIES REPORT: What Goes Around Comes Around

While shopping may be one of our favorite female past times, we rarely ever think of the infamous oxymoron: shop your own closet (or your mother’s or grandmother’s). What’s old is new again thanks to a dwindling economy and flashbacks of days past on recent runways (think a ‘60s renewal on the runways of alice + olivia spring 2012 and Valentino's resort 2012 and my personal favorite, Tibi's spring ‘90s-inspired collection).

Despite the recycling of old clothing trends, jewelry has been at the forefront of becoming more something that’s borrowed, rather than something that’s new.

While this Fashonista attracted my attention with her stylish outerwear (it is seriously difficult to battle the winter blues with style), she immediately pointed our her array of bracelets, rings and her statement dangling earrings, most of which were vintage. Although I was fascinated with her mix of textures (leather gloves, fur snood and even the Navajo print sweater peeking out from her outwear coat), her hands full of rings and bracelets savaged from her mother and grandmother’s jewelry boxes that were fashion savvy and seriously unique. Similarly, her dangling turquoise earrings added a splash of color to her black-on-black ensemble.

Spotted: A mix of trendy jewels across the spring/summer 2012 runways. Whether tribal inspired à la Michael Kors or flirty and floral like Prada, bangles and necklaces can amp up and accessorize any wardrobe. Newer to the jewelry scene is the earring comeback, adorning your ears for a subtle, sleek appeal; choose dangling earrings as seen on the runways of Marni and Bottega Veneta or opt for Jil Sander inspired oversized studs. Regardless of your choices, let that arm, neck and ear candy shine!
