The most dedicated Fashionistas always make sure to follow not only the latest fashion trends, but the latest beauty trends as well. In recent years, we have seen more of a focus on beauty trends going down the runway at fashion week. Loyal Tumblr and Instagram followers have seen Eva Chen post backstage peeks at the makeup, hair and nail products being used in the hottest shows.
And while fashion trends slowly evolve from season to season, hair trends change every minute and are almost impossible to keep up with. One season Fashionistas are growing their hair down to their knees and the next they are chopping it off into short blunt bobs. And don’t even get me started on hair color; if we were to change our hair color every time a different hue came in or out of vogue, we would have no hair left to dye.
If you have been keeping up with hair trends at all in the last decade you have been witness to the beauty world’s on-again, off-again relationship with bangs. Like the braid and the ponytail, bangs have been worn too many ways to count throughout the years, and every time the trend fades out we are left wondering when and how it will come back.
Well my fashionable friends, they are back! The bang trend suddenly reappeared this month on Vogue’s February cover girl, Taylor Swift. Since then, stars like Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Biel have been photographed sporting the blunt and choppy look. Witherspoon proved bangs are the perfect cure for a breakup back in 2007 when she showed up at the Golden Globes after her divorce in a yellow Nina Ricci dress and straight statement bangs.
Breakup or no breakup, bangs are the perfect way to spice things up when your hair is boring you, which mine often does! The best part is that the choppy bangs that that are back in trend at the moment are super easy to accomplish. Just head on in to your hairdresser with a picture of the style of bang you want to rock and watch the hair fall to the floor. The good thing about bangs is that by the time the trend is fading out your bangs will be grown out and ready to move on to the next hot trend!
As for styling, bangs are pretty simple. The only tools and products you will need are a straightening iron, the styling product that best fits your hair type and maybe a bottle of your favorite dry shampoo for second-day-hair. If your hair is at all wavy or curly try styling your bangs with TIGI Rockaholic Rock My World Stellar Smoothing Cream to achieve a sleek and smooth look. And if your hair is pin straight be sure to try out Malin + Goetz Hair Pomade to add volume and texture to your look!
