ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Makeup Minimalism

There is nothing worse than rushing around campus on a warm day and trying to look fashionable at the same time. Ankles give out (if heels are involved), skirts stick and blow in all the wrong places and makeup runs. Sometimes it is not pretty!

This is why beauty-saavy Fashionistas change their beauty regimen along with the seasons. Winter — which brings with it dry skin — sometimes calls for liquid cover-up instead of powder. Spring, of course, calls for fun shades of eye shadow and liners to celebrate the warm sun and blooming flowers. And while bright liners and shadows are also great for warm summer nights, hot days running around campus require a minimalist approach.

When I ran into this Fashionista, I myself was quickly forming an oh-so-attractive sweat mustache as I trekked — heavy camera, tripod and laptop in tow — from one side of campus to the other. Unprepared for the warm day, I had left the house earlier that morning with a long sleeve shirt on. When I laid eyes on this Fashionista, I was first envious of her lightweight sundress and pinned-back tresses. However, it was her make-up choice that made me stop her.

This Fashionista was in fact prepared for the warm day from head to toe. Her makeup was simple and fresh with a thin layer of concealer and blush, the perfect application of a rose-colored lip balm and a few coats of mascara. Her overall appearance had me wishing I could start the day over with her look in mind. Her choice of minimal makeup was perfect for the heat and allowed her to trudge around campus all day with no worries of smudged or running makeup — what a relief!

To achieve this Fashionista’s look, try starting with a primer to keep your makeup intact throughout the day. Next you will want to apply foundation with natural ingredients that won’t clog your pores on a hot day. Since the point of this look is to keep things simple and prevent messes when the temperature is through the roof, heavy lipsticks and glosses should be saved for another day. Instead try a simple balm in a nude or rose shade to add a touch of color to your look.  To finish it off, apply one or two coats of mascara to your lashes and call it a day. The makeup routine is quick and easy, leaving you with a flawless face all day long.
