Wearing red around UCLA’s campus is probably not the safest move—especially the week following the football team’s domination over USC’s now unranked team. One exception to this death-wish is rocking red for the sake of fashion. Wearing reds, such as burgundy, is a great way to brighten your fall wardrobe.
This week’s Fashionista—though a true bruin—rocks the red in the right way. Her backless shirt is from Foreign Exchange, her black leggings are from Forever 21, her cheetah print scarf is from Target, her combat boots are from a local shoe store called Topshoes and her watch is by Michael Kors.
What I love most about her look is that she matches her red shirt with a red lip. I am not one that usually approves of multiple parts of your look being the same color, but this Fashionista puts it together in the right way. The cheetah print scarf provides a nice break between the red of her lips and the red of her shirt thus making the red pairing not too much but instead aesthetically pleasing. This Fashionista notes that her red lips are by Revlon lipstick in black cherry. To emulate her look, try any of the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks or the MAC Cosmetics Viva La Glam lipsticks.
Take notes from this Fashionista and create consistency in your beauty routine and clothing-choice. Don’t be afraid to match colors on your face with colors in your outfit. Having similar shades in each respect can make your look appear more cohesive. Your facial features are great accessories for any look. Instead of a statement necklace, try a bold lip or a bright blush. A pinch of colorful makeup will never hurt. Whether you want to rock the red or the better blue, incorporating color on your lips or on your eyes will only enhance your style.
As this is my first ALL ABOUT BEAUTY post for the summer term, it seems appropriate that today’s Fashionista is radiating with bronzed skin and beachy tresses. Her beauty look is so summery that I want to decorate her with flowers and exchange the NYC backdrop for more tropical scenery, but that would mean her blazer would look out of place — and I do like the combo of a black jacket with a bright red pant.
I also love how the pant’s cropped cut and the blazer’s rolled sleeves keep the outfit from looking too formal, especially on a bright, sunny day when it feels wrong to be too done up. However, she still looks put-together, which makes her outfit ideal for a summer internship.
To get that summer glow, try Benefit Cosmetic’s Dallas bronzer. The cute square compact comes with a brush inside so it’s very portable and user-friendly. And if your tan doesn’t come from a powder (or lotion, etc.), which means you’re out baking in the sun, protect your sensitive facial skin with a weightless SPF formula like this one by Clinique. Years from now you’ll be glad that you spent that extra time (and money) to protect your skin!
When it comes to getting surfer-girl/mermaid hair, it all depends on what type of hair you have. Sometimes braids do the trick and other times it’s a job for your curling wand. Or, sometimes, all you need is to let your natural waves air-dry without fussing with them. Whichever way works for you, savor those good hair days because we all know that for most of us, beachy hair is not an everyday occurrence (or possibility).
But do not be dismayed when your beach-hair attempts go astray — that’s when it’s ideal to try an up-do because your hair's texture will hold well. Don't get frustrated when styling your hair, get bobby pins!
I have a confession: I don’t actually know my natural hair color. I have dying my hair since I convinced my mom to let me get highlights at thirteen. And since I first entered that salon way back when, I haven’t looked back. I have had platinum blonde, chestnut, and, even for a week in my life, black hair. I’m currently rocking ombre hair. But perhaps my favorite hair color I have ever had was being a saucy redhead.
When I came across this strawberry blonde Fashionista, I was immediately taken back to my heyday of being a redhead. Her pale skin tone is the perfect canvas to let her hair color pop. The reason I evidentially stopped having auburn hair was the upkeep. Today, however, there are a variety of products that are purposefully aimed at redheads. Shampoos. Glazes. Even styling products. The beauty world is better than ever for redheads.
Looking to update your look for summer. Instead of chopping off your locks and getting sun kissed highlights, try going red for a lift of your spirit and spunk.
The holiday season is upon us and palettes of black, gold, red, and silver are taking over winter fashion. Not only are these festive colors necessary for your holiday wardrobe, they’re also the perfect way to dress up your nails! My favorite of these shades is the ever-classic red. There is nothing as timeless and sophisticated as pure red nail polish, so it’s imperative every Fashionista has their own collection of reds in stock.
Dior's new trio of nail-polishes is the ideal designer collection of seasonable reds. As Refinery29 explains, this collection is “inspired by three eras of
Dior fashion, the dynamic shades are a triple-retro threat: Icone's pearly burgundy pays hommage to a nail lacquer called Rouge Icône, designed to go with Dior's 1955 Atout Coeur dress; Trafalgar's poppy hue recalls the flashy red designs Christian Dior sent down the runway mid-show; and Gruau's fire-engine red shade is taken from a 1947 drawing of the Ispahan dress by Dior illustrator, Rene Gruau.” With this collection your nails will have an outfit for any and every holiday occasion.
This Fashionista shows us that she knows just how to dial it up for the holidays with her mesmerizing mani. Her nails are painted in a merry Opi Malaga Wine color, a fun way to get us in the spirit for sleigh bells, hot chocolate and snowmen. This Fashionista knows how to class up holiday fashion by rocking her Chanel-Chic ensemble. Besides her sophisticated red nails, this Fashionista’s vintage Valentino sweater, Foley and Corinna cross-body bag, Chanel sunglasses, and fire engine-red Chanel lip stain adds to her stylish, spirited look.
So follow this red hot Fashionista’s lead and splash a shade of crimson on your nails today!
