WEEKEND FORECAST: Versatile Stripes

Summer is finally here in the district! As humidity and abnormally high temperatures set in, fellow Fashionistas like this one look for ways to stay cool and fashionable in the heat. I spotted this fellow Fashionista strolling through the shops on M street in Georgetown. However, this look would also be perfect for a weekend evening dinner or a sunday family brunch.

This season the nautical blue and white stripes have been a popular go-to frequently worn as a casual top paired with white or denim shorts. This Fashionista is shaking things up with a bandage-striped skirt on the bottom paired with a tucked-in off-white button down on top. Adding to the look is a pair of round oversized sunglasses such as the large cat's eye sunglasses from Ray-Ban. Paired with either flats or wedges this look is easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion. Need to be ready for both? Try a neutral toned scarf to dress down the outfit for daily outings and bring a cropped navy blazer to dress up for an evening occasion.

Want to get this look? Pair a loose button-down blouse (many different styles are available at Topshop) with a BCBG striped power skirt and a pair of Dolce Vita neutral toned wedges. Wearing a tan tote bag during the day and a longer shoulder-chain for the evening. This Topshop convertible bag is as versatile as this outfit allowing a Fashionista to be ready for any event the day may bring.

Style Guro Bio: Barrie Ginsberg

Hi fellow Fashionistas! I’m Barrie Ginsberg and I am a rising junior at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in History. I currently work part time at BCBG MaxAzria in D.C.

Born and raised in Westchester, NY the opportunities available in the suburbs were nothing in comparison to what the Big Apple had to offer. Walking down the streets of New York City with my parents I knew I would always end up in a city, both for college and afterwards. I always enjoyed following trends of the people I saw in the city and I continue to look to them for inspirational ideas for my own style. Keeping up with the trends of New York, and now DC, I enjoy adding original and key pieces to a look to make it unique. I like being able to put pieces together that normally wouldn't go together and creating something that is new and eye catching. What I used to wear as a simple go-to look, I now think one step further and see how I can incorporate a new trend.

Branching out and experimenting with my style in the last couple years has sparked my interest in the fashion industry. I love that I can incorporate my love for fashion into a potential career such as fashion marketing. I look forward to where fashion will take me in the future and am excited to begin blogging for CollegeFashionista.
