FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Leah Baker

Fashionistas/os, I believe that I’ve found the winter equivalent to the LBD (Little Black Dress); this ladies and gentlemen is the red pea coat. I spotted this week’s Fashionista rocking the look! Continue reading to find out her take on scarves and  what she asked for for Christmas!

Name: Leah Baker
Year: Junior
Major: Psychology, minoring in Neuroscience

College Fashionista: What are you wearing?
Leah Baker: My sweater is from Forever 21, the jeans are from Abercrombie & Fitch, the belt is from Target, the boots are from H&M and the coat is from American Rag.

CF: With the Holidays just around the corner, are you asking for any clothes/accessories for Christmas? Is yes, what?

LB: This year, I asked for a coat from H&M, Isotoner knit gloves, and a Fossil watch.

CF:  What's your favorite thing about winter style?
LB: I absolutely love scarves! I wear them all year long, but I'm all about warm, cable knit scarves for those chilly winter days.

CF: What celebrity would you say most resembles your style and why?
LB:I'd say my style is most like Selena Gomez. She often wears laid back pieces, and a lot of layers, which is really similar to my style. I like to keep things simple, and do a lot of layering, especially in the winter.

How to: To get the chic winter style, keep your look casual and bright. Pair your red pea coat with dark skinnies, an adorable pair of suede boots and a cable knit sweater to peak out underneath. Tip: To add some drama to your look, amp it up with a sexy cat eye and when in doubt, wear red!

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Madeena Shafiq

Fashionistas/os, the holidays are just around the corner–have you thought about what you’re going to wear to all of the fabulous parties? If you’re like me, you’ve been racking your brain and your closet to find the perfect look. Today, I spotted an amazing ensemble for any holiday party. This week’s Fashionista shows us how to look festive and fierce.

Name: Madeena Shafiq
Major: Bio Chemistry
Year: Junior

College Fashionista: What are you wearing?
Madeena Shafiq: My blazer’s from Sears, my tank top is Express, the leggings are from the Kardashian Kollection and my boots are also from Express.

CF: What are your best tips for dressing warm, but still looking chic?
MS: I would say layering is a must and incorporate a sparkly piece to add a little something extra to your cozy, cold weather look.

CF: Are there any trends on the Ohio State campus that are popular, but you personally don’t like?
MS: I don’t really pay attention to other people. (Laughs) But I guess I don’t like when people wear leggings as pants if they don’t pair it with boots. If they wear Sperry’s or flats with the leggings, I just don’t like how it looks. I only like boots with leggings.

CF: What’s your favorite look for a night on the town?
MS: I love sequins so probably my sequined Aztec pattern skirt which I got from Express. I love anything sparkly and shiny for going out!

How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, dare to be bold and rock a trendy pair of printed pants. For the perfect holiday party look, throw on a sequin tank and a red blazer. To complete the look, wear a pair of tall boots and throw on some glitter bangles. Jingle all the way! Tip: Swipe on a smooth red lip gloss to stand out under the mistletoe.

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Lauren DeCamp

There is one little item in the world that has the power to transform any look. Fashionistas/os, this item is the leather jacket. No matter what your style is, there is a place in your wardrobe for it. You can throw it on over any outfit when you're wanting to look effortlessly cool and turn quite a few heads. The leather jacket gives us normal people the ability to look like a celebrity on his or her day off or a rockstar after their concert. It's definitely a must have piece in any closet. This week's Fashionista shows us how to rock a casually chic look and the importance of being confident in our own skin.

Name: Lauren DeCamp
Major: Political Science
Year: Junior

College Fashionista: What are you wearing?
Lauren DeCamp: My top is from Forever 21, the jacket is from Maurice’s, the jeans are from Rue 21 and I got the shoes from Journey’s.

CF: What do you think is the biggest fashion faux paux/mistake that you’ve ever made?
LD: I think the biggest fashion mistake I’ve ever made is probably wearing too many T-shirts.

CF: What is your favorite item in your closet right now?
LD: Right now, my favorite thing in my closet is my black leather jacket.

CF: At this time, what celebrity/famous person do you think has the best style and why?
LD: I think Jennifer Lawrence has the best style right now. I love her confidence and the way she rocks an outfit. She wears a lot of things that I would definitely wear!

How to: Wanting to get this Fashionista's look? Start with great fitting denim and a classic black and white stripe top. Match it with a pair of awesome kicks and complete the look with a black leather jacket. Tip: As a nice feminine contrast to the tougher ensemble, keep your complexion porcelain by applying a light reflecting foundation and swipe a baby pink lip stain on your lips!

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Lydia Detty

Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and J.Crew have made the preppy polished look a timeless American classic. Cardigans, oxfords and button-downs have become iconic symbols of the scholarly chic style. This Fashionista is rocking the perfect updated school girl look. Steal her look and follow her tips to look fabulous at the library, on a Starbucks coffee run or at a study group with your friends!

Name: Lydia Detty
Year: Junior
Major: Biology- Pre Med

College Fashionista: What are you wearing?
Lydia Detty: I got my cardigan and button-down top from Forever 21. My pants are from H&M. I got my shoes from this website called urbanog.com and my purse is Cath Kidston.

CF: With all of the holidays coming up, what are you planning on wearing to holiday parties?
LD: I’ve been thinking about this for weeks! I’ll probably wear a sweater and boots or maybe a sweater dress. I have a red sweater dress that I might wear with sparkly tights and black heels. I want to look festive but not like “Hey I’m wearing red and green.”

CF: What challenges do you come across when dressing for cold weather?
LD: I have a hard time finding shoes that are weather appropriate but that still look good with what I’m wearing. I also have trouble with coats. I have two warm coats and they don’t always match my attire!

CF: What’s your favorite cold weather accessory or clothing article?
LD: I think my favorite for cold weather is a pair of boots, but I’m super picky with how they look on my legs. When I look at riding boots, they’re too tall and I think they look weird because my legs are short.

How to: To get this Fashionista’s lovely layered look, start with a button-down blouse. I love that she chose a chambray top, because I feel that it makes the look a little more casual chic, but you can choose any button-down that you like. Then, layer the blouse with a chunky knit cardigan. Next match it with a pair of berry colored skinnies—you could choose plum or maroon. Accessorize the final look with a colored cross body bag and vintage inspired oxfords! Tip: To keep the look pretty and polished, give your hair bouncy loose curls!

The perfect outfit for a college Fashionista/o is one that is professional, fierce and casual. CF: What are the staples of your wardrobe?

MS: I’m from California so I’m not used to dressing for fall weather, but I’m loving boots. Boots and neutral colors like brown. I don’t like accentuating my red hair.

CF: What are your tips for layering for fall?

MS: Well I’ve never done it before, but so far I’ve been wearing autumn-y colors under pea coats and scarves. I haven’t broken out the gloves yet though!

CF: How do you put your outfits together?

MS: Usually when I doze off in class I think of outfits that would look good together and then when I’m home I put them together and see what works.

How To: To get this Fashionista’s look, start with a basic tank and black riding pants. Layer your tank with a chic form-fitting blazer. Pair it with a delicate arrow necklace and combat boots. Tip: To keep the look simple and classic, slick all of your hair back into a sleek ponytail.

However, there’s something so timeless about a classic look. This Fashionista proves that it pays to stay true to the classics. Annie West: My sweater is from H&M, my jeans are from Urban Outfitters and my boots are Franco Sarto.

CF: Are you more likely to follow trends or stick to a certain style?
AW: I like to think that I stick to a more traditional style, but I like to experiment with trends and play with fun pieces. The outfit I have on right now is mostly classic, but I wouldn’t say that my metallic bag is very traditional.

CF: When you think of a trendsetter in fashion, who do you think of?
AW: When I think of trendsetters, I think of Olivia Palermo. I love Olivia, she has such an amazing way of mixing things and putting outfits together that I wouldn’t even think of. To be honest, I stalk her on Pinterest! I think she has a pretty classic style too, but she incorporates fun prints and statement pieces.

CF: Have you always been interested in fashion and putting outfits together? If so, when do you first remember being interested?
AW: Yes, I have! I first remember being interested when I was about five years old. I would dress up in crazy leggings and tutus. I grew up with only brothers so it was a big deal for me to be girly.

How to: To get this Fashionista’s timeless look, pair your favorite skinny jeans with a nautical chic striped fisherman sweater and add riding boots. It’s as simple as that! Tip: To keep the casual and relaxed look, put your hair up in a messy pony or bun. Good news Fashionistas/os: mornings just got a little easier!

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Elinor Vanheeckeren

Possibly one of my favorite trends that I’ve been spying all over the runways this season is the mixture of prints. There’s something so serendipitous about the combination of a few really good prints. I think the appeal is in the surprise. Finding out that two prints that look like they’d absolutely clash, actually look absolutely chic is an amazing thing in fashion. Mixing the right prints can add dimension to your look and make your outfit appear richer. This week’s Fashionista, who was found on a park bench, totally nailed it!

Name: Elinor Vanheeckeren
Year: Freshman
Major: Sustainable Horticulture

College Fashionista: What are you wearing?
Elinor Vanheeckeren: Most of what I have on right now is borrowed my friends. I borrow from my friends a lot. My pants are borrowed from one of my online friends, my boots are thrifted, my scarf is from Urban Outfitters and my shirt is actually from my ex-boyfriend.
Side note: exes might be good for something afterall!

CF: What’s your fall must have item (clothes/accessories)?
EV: I really like knit/crochet hats.

CF: Who do you look to for your fashion inspiration?
EV: Older ladies. I’m inspired by old ladies that I see on the bus and their outfit combinations.

CF: How many times a day do you typically change your outfit?
EV: Wow, a lot. I wear something different to my earlier classes than I do my later classes. I usually change my outfit twice during the day and once at night if I go out. So probably three times a day I guess.

CF: What’s your favorite season to dress for and why?
EV: Oh definitely fall. You can wear lots of layers. You get to buy your hats, scarves and boots – and cool sweaters are awesome.

How to: The number one rule to remember here is THROW OUT THE RULES! If you aren’t daring and curious, you won’t discover the best combinations. You can start with a basic T-shirt and a plaid button-down top. You can borrow your button-down from your boyfriend, your guy friend, or even your ex. Next, throw on a print scarf that compliments your plaid top. If you’re feeling really bold like this Fashionista, opt to wear a printed pant. If you’re a little more matchy-matchy like me, choose an acid wash jean or fun colored skinnies. Then, wear a really kick-butt pair of boots. Tip: Keep your makeup muted and simple to pull of the bold mix of prints.

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Katie Sheck

I’ve probably said it before, but there is nothing more exciting than the fresh start of autumn. I don’t think there’s a better season for fashion. I love when the temperatures begin to cool and the longer layers come into play. It seems like there’s more to do in the fall as well. Maybe that’s because we all look so fabulous in our fall fashions, that it would be a shame to stay home. This Fashionista was spotted on a Friday on her way to work at a rock concert. I think she really rocked her look.

Name: Katie Sheck

Major: Organizational Communication

Year: Senior

College Fashionista: What does fashion mean to you?

Katie Sheck: Fashion is another way to express yourself.

CF: What do you think was the most fashionable time period/era in history?

KS: I would have to say the ‘50s with starlets like Marilyn Monroe. The time period was known for it’s classic, iconic beauty.

CF: What trends are you the most excited to wear this fall?

KS: I’m very excited for scarves and oversized knits! Just comfy, warm pieces.

CF: What trends do you dislike for this fall?

KS: I actually can’t think of anything right now. I’m really liking the upcoming styles.

How To: To get this Fashionista’s rockin’ look, pick a strong color or fun print bowtie top and put it with a pair of faded denim. Add a cross-body bag and some platform shoes with serious height and you’re ready to rock! Tip: To play up that ‘70s grunge feel, give some height to your hair and tease at the crown. Don’t hesitate to swipe a bold color on your pout to get a really standout look.
