LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Athletic Wear Turned Casual

This week's Fashionisto is sporting his athletic wear to class so he can head to the golf course afterward — nothing wrong with that! This athletic outfit is easy to wear when transitioning from one place to the next because it is very casual and looks like a typical summer outfit.

He wears a white Nike golf shirt with a pair of khaki American Eagle shorts. I think it's essential for guys to own several pair of khaki shorts because they can be styled with basically any type of shirt. Some other great options are plaid, cargo or twill shorts. Abercrombie & Fitch has some really great styles and the colors are fun too. I know I always say it, but don't be afraid to add some color!

Of course, a great pair of sunglasses and flip flops are  must-haves for a hot day on campus. Spy, the maker of his sunglasses, has really unique looks to pick from, as well as a lot of fun colors to try. Finally, I am loving his Oakley sandals in chocolate — their prices are great and can transform your entire look. Check out various different sunglasses and sandles and try something new to intensify your outfit.

There are so many ways you could wear this look. Keep the shorts and try a casual shirt  in a plaid or linen, or tuck in a shirt and rock a colored belt. You can even stick with the white polo (or in this case, white golf shirt) and focus on the bottom half; wear some funky shorts and some boat shoes! Any shorts will go with a white shirt and any shirt will go with khaki shorts. Mess around with different combinations until you find something you're happy with. Don't be afraid of color! Have fun and good luck!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Sharp, Classy And Dressed To Impress

This week’s Fashionisto portrays both style and confidence. The weather started to cool off a bit on this particular gloomy day at OSU, and he definitely took great advantage of it! Sometimes it's difficult for guys to dress their best when the weather is in the 90s because they just want to stay as cool as possible. However, (hopefully) the weather starts cooling fown more and more as fall approaches, and I am beyond ready! A fitted suit jacket, a plaid dress shirt, dark-wash jeans, loafers and an essential pair of sunglasses is all it takes to achieve a look like his!

What I enjoy most about his outfit is how he pairs his suit jacket with his jeans — it's the best of both worlds. Jeans are basically the most casual pant to choose from, while a suit jacket is the most formal type of jacket. I love how he combines them to achieve a grown-up yet laid back look.

This look is absolutely perfect for interviews, meetings, career fairs, work and even a date night because it’s extremely versatile! Plus, when you do get warm and decide to ditch the jacket, you won’t look any less fashionable than you were before! A great plaid shirt is always a good choice and it adds a pop of color. Speaking of pops of color, check out those loafers. Overall, his outfit is stylish, strong, classy and fun. People are bound to take a guy seriously when he's dressed to impress, so use this week's Fashionisto as your inspiration to build up your wardrobe with some classy garments.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Summer, Stripes, Sun, Sandles, Shades, Shorts

This week's Fashionisto gives me the urge to go to the beach! Good thing I am up at 4 a.m waiting for my flight to Myrtle Beach! It was in the 90s when I spotted him on campus. His striped shorts caught my eye — I'm a total stripe fan!

I think this Fashionisto has it all figured out. He's got the sandles, shades and shorts. There are so many ways you can switch this outfit up. Striped shorts (or any pattern shorts for that matter) are great for the summer because they adds some fun to your outfit. Think about throwing on a pair of Sperry Top-Siders with these shorts for a whole new “summer look.” He's successful in portraying a beach, college and overall summer look.

Your hat, sandles and shades help accessorize your look, so there's a lot options; don't be afraid to try a new style of somthing. Snapbacks are super popular on campus right now, and the perfect accessory to keep your head and face cool. Also, wearing a pattern-on-pattern look is a huge trend right now; try pairing a striped tank with a striped pair of shorts shorts. Just be careful you don't go on stripe overload!

Lastly, I love Ray-Bans! Imagine a pair of neon Ray-Bans with this look to brighten it up some — I'm thinking yes!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Summer Style Status

The weather here on OSU's campus seems to go from one extreme to the next, but the past two weeks, it has been extremely hot. I'm not complaining at all, though! I really enjoy the weather, but as I walked through campus I realized how many of the guys just throw on a pair of gym shorts and a T-shirt when the weather gets hot. This is okay, but I know you guys can do better than that!

This weeks Fashionisto does a great job at wearing clothing that can keep him cool, while still looking nice! Who doesn't love white shorts? You can match anything with them and they are a great basic to always have in your wardrobe. This being said, I love how this Fashionisto did a navy/white combo. We all know the “sailor” look/colors are always popular in the summer and I absolutley adore it! Click here for more “sailor-inspiration”.

There are so many ways you can transform this look as well. I suggest slipping on a pair of Sperry's, a cool bracelet (yes, guys can wear 'em, too!) and perhaps exchanging the T-shirt for a V-neck. I love Old Navy's V-neck shirts because they are so soft and wash very well. Plus, they are super cheap, so what's not to love!?

I think the best piece of advice I can tell you guys this week is that simple doesn't mean boring. This Fashionisto's outfit isn't any warmer than he would be in the typical T-shirt and gym shorts, and it looks so much better! So if you catch yourself wearing your gym clothes to class, think twice. Don't let the heat get the best of your wardrobe!

Hint: You could also exchange the T-shirt / V-neck for a polo or interesting tank. Have fun with the summer heat!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: A Colorful Spin On Black And White

This Fashionisto decided to put his own unique twist on black and white — and I love it! The high-waist look is such a huge trend this summer for women and I was beyond excited to see that he chose to rock the look. I always enjoy seeing someone take a trend and transforming it into something that is totally their own; I believe he definetly achieved this. He made his pair of vintage tuxedo pants into something interesting.

We are so used to seeing the black trouser and white button-up shirt — the typical business casual look. This just goes to show that adding a pop of color, accessories, an interesting pattern or in this case all three, can easily flip a boring look into an original. A great black trouser and button-up dress shirt are perfect must-have pieces that are necessary for several different occasions as you work your way through college. This Fashionisto transformed his black pants into a high-waist look. The white button-up Comme Des Garcons shirt has an accent of color and pattern in the front zip pockets — how much fun is that?!

I can't fail to recognize his awesome socks from Happy Socks. It's not often that you see someone use their socks as an accessory piece; I really like the idea because it was the first thing that caught my eye when I spotted him walking on campus! It's always great running into people like him because it inspires me to wear something that i'm typically afraid to wear; I really hope this inspires all of you as well. I think his unique personal style is perfect and his fashion sence is expressed completely throughout. From his feet, with his great footwear and socks, to his head, with his blue do and interesting eye earring, he is such an interesting and fun person to grab some style tips from.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Brighten Up My Life

This Fashionisto is definitely not afraid of color. He’s doing everything right in his own fashionable way. If you look, he has paired numerous trendy items together and came up with his own look. But he did so in a way where it works and doesn’t clash whatsoever. This look is trendy, unique, stylish and perfect for campus. First, let me start off by saying I love how he chose to wear a mint colored button-up. Mint is such a popular color right now and it’s so nice to see it on the guys! His pairing of garments is interesting and inspiring. I enjoyed how he paired this mint shirt with a pair of light blue and white pinstripe shorts. It’s such a cool way of showing your stylish side on such a hot day. The blue undershirt complements his light blue shorts and pulls the look together perfectly. It's great to wear a variety of color during the summer time — it's such a happy season!

But, I can’t lie — check out those Chucks! This Fashionisto custom-made these shoes and I was completely in love; I had to check out their website. It’s a really great feature that Converse offers its clients and I respect them for it. They have provided their customers with the opportunity to design their own shoe by choosing different colors, patterns, logos, stitch color, shoe lace color, lining color, shoe tongue color — everything! I truly recommend this website whether you plan to purchase a pair, or not. I played around for a few minutes and it was a neat experience. Plus, no one will have the same shoes as you! I was really stunned with this his ability to put several trends together, but by turning it around to provide a completely original overall look. He’s the perfect inspiration to brighten up your wardrobe and add something out of the ordinary to your outfit!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Switchin’ Things Up!

Fashion is something so exciting to me. It allows you to express yourself using different colors, textures, patterns, etc. This particular fashionisto caught my eye and I was instantly excited! I have seen him around campus numerous times, but he has always been one to sport a T-shirt and jeans, or a hoodie and sweatpants.

While this look is very casual, it was a different look for this Fashionisto. I have noticed many males are often afraid to step out of their comfort zone with their wardrobe, especially when it comes to color and accessories. It’s great to switch things up and wear something you normally wouldn't. Even if it's a small step such as wearing a colorful shirt or unique shorts or adding a cool accessory, it's fun to try out something new and shock others!

With his sky blue button-up shirt, faded jeans and aviators, he gives off a preppy vibe. Pairing this with black sambas and rolling the shirt sleeves up produces a more relaxed look. I personally love aviators because they can basically go with any look in the summer time. You need good protection from the sun while walking from class to class and you might as well look good doing it.

Hint: You can cool this look down by switching the jeans for a pair of white or grey shorts and pairing it with some flip flops or sandals. Have fun with summer colors, and don't be afraid to switch things up!

Style Guru Bio: Christy Stiteler

I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to capture OSU’s best fashion and start the summer off as a Style Guru! I’m a senior Fashion & Retail Studies major, specializing in product development at The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!). I am a photography director for Scarlette/Grey Magazine at OSU and a Style Guru for OSU. I have always had an intense love for fashion-nothing else has ever interested and inspired me so much. I believe it is one of the greatest ways of expressing yourself.

Over the past few years I have worked for several local magazines, writing fashion articles, conducting photo shoots, etc. I was also lucky enough to work as a stylist backstage at an Express fashion show, and I just returned from my first (and certainly not last) visit to NYC. These amazing events have opened my eyes to all the possibilities there are in the fashion industry – I love it all!

My personal style consist of military-inspired (Anything!), color blocking, and all things vintage. I love lace, high collars, and anything unique and feminine. My career aspirations consist of becoming a fashion stylist, boutique owner, or fashion writer. By no means am I limiting myself to any of these though! One thing I have learned so far is there are an endless amount of opportunities in the fashion industry. Fashion is ever changing and that’s so exciting to me.

Don’t be afraid to try something different – start your own trend, and rock it! I can’t wait to see all the great fashion around OSU – surprise me with something amazing!
