FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Carol Chang

Everyday after my usual walk to Starbucks I always come across this particular Fashionista at the bus stop. Sadly, she always looked like she was in a hurry, so stopping her for an interview did not really seem like the smartest idea. Yesterday, I finally caught her attention and was able to stop her for a spotlight feature. Just like every other day, her style was impeccable and gave off confidence and originality. Her jet black hair, hot pink lips and creative use of a bowtie made me smile on the gloomy day.

FASHIONISTO SPOTLIGHT: Lerell Richards

Most girls will tell you that there is really something about a guy in a well tailored suit . As a College student, it's not so common to catch a man in a suit, and catching a male in a well tailored blazer is really something. The weather is slowly changing in Happy Valley, but that thankfully doesn't mean the Fashionistos are going to go into hiding. Walking to the bookstore, I came across this Fashionisto and even though I was in a rush, I knew I definitely had to get a picture. He paired his plaid blazer with a blue button-down and added a pair of khakis and blue moccasins for such a casual yet preppy look! I certainly felt like he was dressed like a London bloke. If he was not charming enough, his pair of shades and killer smile would have made any girl swoon.

Name Lerell Richards

Major: Psychology

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: I totally adore your blazer where is it from?

Lerell Richards: I actually got it from a thrift store.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

LR: I would simply describe it as preppy.

CF: Was there a special occasion for you dressing up or is it just you?

LR: It's just me. Dressing this way is daily for me. There doesn't have to be an occasion.

CF: Do you have a favorite fall trend?

LR: Blazers – they go perfectly with the season.

How To : To get a similar look like Lerell, try out this Urban Renewal Studded Plaid Blazer matched with a pair of khakis and a solid colored button-up. A pair of moccasins would be perfect but a pair of TOMS may even look better.

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Kathleen “Kat” Rowan

The book Fifty Shades of Grey was definitelly a craze this summer. But before knowing exactly what the book was about, I'm sure every Fashionista read the title and automatically thought of an outfit that contained different shades of grey— I know I surely was. Putting an outfit together with just one color may be difficult for others, but this Fashionista was able to make a suttle statement with her blue on blue get up.

Name: Kathleen “Kat” Rowan

Major: Veterinary/ Biomedical Science

Year: Freshman, Class of 2016

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is each item from?

Kathleen Rowan: Boyfriend fit french-cuffed button down from Gap, high-waist navy blue shorts from Forever 21 and simple gladiator sandals from Marshalls.

CF: What is your style inspiration on an everyday basis?

KR: A big inspiration to me is Audrey Hepburn. Even though she's decades past, I like to pick out my outfits with her in mind, aiming to be feminine and classic.

CF: What is your favorite budget-friendly piece of clothing you own?

KR: Right now I'm a big fan of high-low flowy skirts. I have one in forrest green from Forever 21 for $15.

CF: Back to school season has officially arrived in Happy Valley. Do you have any favorites for the fall?

KR: When I went shopping for back to school, I was sure to pick up long knit sweaters/ sweater dresses to wear with leggings and boots when it gets cold. Matched with cute scarves, you can't go wrong.

How To: To get this Fashionista’s look try this soft-wash blue stripe shirt paired with hight-waist shorts and cute sandals. For a more tomboy approach try pairing it with some Chucks.

FASHIONISTO SPOTLIGHT: Ashton Blake

Just recently tribal prints have become such a fashion trend. We have seen them on the runways of Michael Kors and Isabel Marant. It is so common that you are most likely to see women rocking these prints, be it with dresses, rompers or just accessories. But as I was walking to class I came across this Fashionisto with a ganado print hat which immediately caught my eye and I knew I had to stop him and ask him for a picture. Back-to-school season is always stressful; but as fall approaches the trends are slowly changing. Another thing that struck me about this fashionistos outfit was the fact that he toned down his tribal tank with a denim button up so it wouldnt clash with his hat which automatically gave him points. I personally loved the fact that he wore buck shoes as opposed to athletic shoes. Whether hes going to class or going to grab something to eat his outfit is one that can fit every casual setting.

CF: Weren't you a bit nervous about the bold tribal prints?

AB: No not at all, I have the matching tank top so all of it flows. The tan in the hat flows with my skin tone.

CF: Who are your favorite designers?

AB: Depends on the piece of clothing. For shoes I love Retro Jordans. Clothes I like Obey for a chill outfit and for watches Michael Kors or any unique watch

How To: His entire outfit may be found at  Urban Outfitters. I personally had a favorite item which was his OBEY Printed 5-Panel Hat and we all know a guy can never go wrong with the right set of Chino Pants.

FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Jernetta Cabell

Have you noticed how trends from the past are slowly finding their way back? Just recently, I was helping my mother clean out her closet and I literally felt like I was at a mini thrift store. All different kinds of print, shoulder padded blouses and high-waisted garments were everywhere. I was more than happy to give her a helping hand and, of course, help myself out. Vintage looks have definitely been on the rise these past few years. I came across this Fashionista downtown and the first thing I noticed was her short beach blonde hair and bright red lipstick. I immediately knew I had to stop her for a picture. She kind of reminded me of a modern day Twiggy with a hint of Rihanna. She had huge glasses, pale colored skinny jeans, a tribal print tank (which she admitted to cutting up herself) and two-toned heels . You may have noticed, she had a mellow colorblock scheme going on. Personally, I loved how she put her outfit together. The right set of jeans, colored or not, can give off such a chic look.

Name: Jernetta Cabell

Major: Psychology/Business

Year: Graduated

CollegeFashionista: What/Who inspires your looks?

Jernetta Cabell: Mostly art and music. People like Ashley Olsen, Natalie Portman, Lana Del Rey and Rita Ora definately have an effect on me too.

CF: Where is your favorite place to shop?

JC: I absolutely love thrift stores!

CF: Where did you get your shoes from?

JC: A vintage store.

CF: Do you have a specific item that you must always have on you?

JC: A nude lipstick or my facial primer.

How To: For a similar pair, these jeans from ASOS would fit perfectly. As for the self made print tank- Its as easy as a, b, c. One can simply get a graphic tee from Urban Outfitters and glam it up however. If you're in need of a little inspiration, YouTube has so many D.I.Ys.

Style Guru Bio: Kanyinsola Demola-Seriki

I'm Kanyinsola and I’m so excited to be a new Fall Style Guru for CollegeFashionista representing Pennsylvania State University. I’m a rising senior, studying Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Women's Studies. Although I was born in the “city that never sleeps” and the “center of fashion”, New York City, most of my youth has been spent in Lagos, Nigeria.

Being a New Yorker, fashion and style are like second languages. I really became obsessed with fashion after watching seasons of Sex and the City. I have also been tagged a “girly girl” by friends because of the fact that I love getting dressed up regardless of what the occasion may be. I mean, they do say one can never be overdressed or overeducated. After wearing a uniform for over eight years between elementary and secondary school, it took me a while to find my inner fashion goddess. After going off to college, I found it pretty easily. The easiest way to define my own personal style would be a mixture of Rihanna, Blake Lively, Kourtney Kardashian and the Olsen Twins .These women have this effortlessly chic style that is always eye-catching.

Weekly, I will be giving you all a FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT story on the oh so cool people around my campus. Fall is my favorite season, so this is one journey I am excited to be going on.
