STYLE ADVICE: Strutting Around Downtown

It’s my favorite season of the year, it’s finally spring Fashionistas! That means the sun and flowers will be popping up, and before you know it, summer will be here. Although spring is great, it can be difficult to dress for the weather at times. Walking to your first class in the morning can be really chilly and then can get very hot into the afternoon. This past weekend, I traveled to New York City for a weekend getaway with this Fashionista. Dressing to walk around the city all day and in the springtime means you have to be prepared for anything.

This Fashionista wore the perfect outfit to stroll around the city in spring. She has on a black Adidas crop top with a flannel tied around her waist if she gets cold. This is a great idea because a flannel is super cute and lightweight enough that if it’s windy, she can put it on or leave it tied around her waist for a comfy look. I also love her light wash jeans with the holes in the knee because they’re breathable and so trendy right now. She paired this look with light blue and white sneakers which was so necessary because shopping all day on your feet in uncomfortable shoes can be a nightmare. Then, to match her shoes she added the blue round sunglasses. My favorite pieces she added are her several unique rings and bracelets. To finish her outfit, she added a tiny sun necklace. This Fashionista nailed this look and was so cute and comfortable all day.

WHAT TO WEAR: Spring Break Beauty

Cold weather and school work got you down? Hang in there Fashionistas, it’s almost spring break! Whether that means going somewhere warm and sunny or just being able to relax at home for a week, I think we can all agree this break is much needed.

I don’t know about everywhere else but in Blacksburg, the weather has been all over the place this winter. Some days it has been 70 degrees and sunny and others it has been freezing and snowy, so dressing for class is always a challenge. The outfit this Fashionista is wearing could be worn on a breezy day on the beach or staying at home and catching up with friends.

She is wearing a white lightweight sweater and light wash blue jean shorts with tan Birkenstock sandals. This sweater is comfy and I love how it flows when she walks. Underneath the white sweater, she is wearing a black detailed lace high neckline bralette. She then adds a black choker with a gold bead with her initial and then a gold necklace with an off-white sparkly gemstone.

To complete her look and add some texture and color, she put a coral and white-patterned headband in her blonde curly hair. I love how she pulled off this look with a lot of unique pieces. She matched her white sweater with the coral and white headband and her black bralette with the black choker. These pieces stand out because of her simple and cute denim shorts and tan sandals. This Fashionista looks fabulous and is ready for a day at the beach, all she needs is some sunglasses, sunscreen, and a fashion magazine to read while tanning.

BEAUTY BAR: Everyday Glam

Something I always say is look great feel great. For me personally, it honestly boosts my mood so much when I am wearing an outfit that I really like, I feel better and am more energetic. Getting up early for classes every day can be such a pain and it can be easy to dress in comfy sweats and not really care what I look like, and believe me I do this a lot. But, it makes such a difference when I take the time to get ready in the morning, put makeup on, and pick out a cute outfit. It does not have to be something out of the ordinary, just a nice sweater and jeans and simple hair and makeup can make such a difference.

I picked up this Fashionista to go get coffee before class together and loved her simple everyday look. She was wearing a gray comfy sweater with black skinny jeans and black booties. To accessorize, she topped it off with pretty crystal studs and a gold bar necklace. I really liked her outfit, but her makeup just took this to the next level. She uses the Mary Kay eyeshadow barre palette to get that pretty taupe shade on her lids, then Almay intense i-color smooth black gel liner, and finishes her eyes off with L’Oréal voluminous false fiber lashes waterproof mascara. For her face she starts off with Maybelline master concealer, then Mary Kay mineral powder foundation, Mary Kay sun baked mineral bronzing powder, and for a pop of color, Mary Kay satin lips lip balm. This everyday look is so simple and I guarantee you will feel as amazing as you look.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Hot Outfit in the Cold

I was so excited to come home for winter break and relax after a long, hard semester. Celebrating the holidays in Pittsburgh for me included ice skating downtown, going to see the gingerbread houses, and making and eating lots of Christmas cookies. I always look forward to coming home to see my family and friends too. I was so happy I got to get together with my friend to grab coffee and catch up.

This Fashionista has always had great style, and the outfit she wore was perfect for staying warm and looking great too. I loved this girly winter look that she was wearing on a brisk January day. She was wearing a light gray turtleneck with classic dark wash jeans and black suede booties. The simple sweater and jean combination is taken to the next level with all her accessories. To make this look even cuter, she added pink and gold stacked bracelets and a gold watch. These went really well with the sweater because it did not need a necklace because of the neckline, and the prints on the bracelets added that extra detail to it. She completed her look with a black big Kate Spade purse, and a pop of pink lipstick. I love this outfit because it has so many classic pieces that can be worn different ways like the gold watch and black purse. In the winter, it can be so hard to dress cute and not freeze while doing so, but this fashionista totally rocked it!

STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Lloyd

Hey everyone, my name is Emily and I am a Pittsburgh girl attending school in the south at Virginia Tech. I am a sophomore business major with a minor in business leadership and am looking into minor in fashion merchandising. I am also a member of the Collegiate Women in Business Club and am on their events committee. In addition to school, I love to teach dance classes, hang out with my friends, and go to Hokie football games.

I am a super girly-girl, and I love anything pink or sparkly. I never thought I would wear the colors maroon and orange together before I went to Tech, because like Elle Woods said in Legally Blonde, “Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.” But I have fallen completely in love with everything about the school, from the school colors, to the Hokie stone buildings, to the big family atmosphere. I am so excited to be attending what I think is the greatest school in the world and cannot wait to see where it takes me.

I have always had an eye for fashion and style, and being in the middle of three sisters, it was not easy at times to create new ways to wear my sisters’ old hand-me-downs. My style is mainly very feminine and classic, but I like to add in statement pieces to add a little something extra to it.

For this outfit, I am wearing something that I walk around the city and grab coffee with friends in. I picked a white top with floral embroidery, and to make it a little more edgy, paired it with ripped jeans and a faux fur vest. I also am wearing my favorite pair of brown boots that lace up the back and big white geometric earrings. I really love to accessorize, so I added a gold bracelet with pink crystals and my go-to Kate Spade everyday purse. This is a classic look that shows you exactly what my sense of style really looks like. I am very excited for the rest of the semester and to show you guys what everyone is wearing here in Blacksburg.
