Boys, Belts, and Bright Colors for Summer

School is out and summer is in full swing. With the temperature heating up on these sizzling summer days, you will need the right outfit to keep you cool while looking hot. From barbecues to mini vacations to relaxing with friends, here is how your guy can add a little flare to his basic shorts and T-shirt look.

This Fashionisto wore a pair of white and navy blue pinstriped shorts from J. Crew. He paired them with a mint T-shirt, also from J. Crew, that is super lightweight to keep him from overheating. On his feet, he is sporting Nike Air Huarache Ultra sneakers in white.

As for accessories, he rocked a navy blue and green striped belt from F. H. Wadsworth. Ribbon belts couldn’t be any more perfect to wear for a day on a boat or dining on the water. Belts are an excellent way to take your outfit to the next level and these fun colors are perfect for summer. This season is all about bright colors and letting your personal style shine through.

For this look, he decided to keep it on the casual side by wearing sneakers and leaving his jewelry at home. However, feel free to add a blazer, a watch, a pair of Sperry shoes, or all three to dress up this outfit even more. Whether you fall into the category of laid back or preppy, these are easy pieces you can add to switch up your style.

Where to Unwind this Summer

This summer is all about exploring, having fun, and creating new memories. A perfect place to relax and rejuvenate is The Lodge at Woodloch. Woodloch is the largest resort in Pennsylvania and people travel from all over to stay there. From kayak rides to Swedish massages, it’s the ideal place to wind down and take in all things nature. For this trip, you will need a cute bathing suit, a tote bag to hold your water and camera, and sneakers for when you’re going on a soothing bike ride or sweating it up in a total body workout class.

The three days I spent at Woodloch was just the right amount of time to focus on my health and well-being as well as use creative outlets to reconnect with nature. I realized how much I enjoy art and how many different mediums you can use to create it. I took many classes like watercolor painting, intro. to drawing, pastels, and more. I even learned to make a dreamcatcher utilizing material similar to what Native Americans used.

In addition to arts and crafts, I spent a lot of time outside and participating in various forms of exercise. One outdoor pastime I enjoy is kayaking. At Woodloch, they have a vast lake where you can rent kayaks, paddle boards, and more. While floating around on the lake, I came across beautiful colored birds and heard the faint clamor of bustling beavers from the inland. I was also able to try a pool workout, a barre class that combined ballet and yoga, and practice my old archery skills on their range.

Aside from learning new skills and challenging my body, I also treated it with delicious foods and spa amenities. The food served is all natural and they offer vegan choices and accommodate those with gluten or other food allergies. They believe in getting their food from farm to table and even have a garden and honey bee hives that they use in some of their signature dishes.

If you’re looking for a blissful vacation that leaves you re-energized, then The Lodge at Woodloch is the place for you. Don’t be afraid to try new things, put your cell phone down, and most importantly order the chocolate mousse dessert.

STYLE ADVICE: Overall Love For This Outfit

Spring is here and this beauty could not be any more excited for warm weather. Although April is still a little colder in upstate New York than most places, anything above 45 degrees is considered warm here. With this week hitting 56 degrees, this Oneonta College student is ecstatic. She couldn’t wait to show off her new outfit and freshly shaved legs.

For this Fashionista’s look, she is rocking pink corduroy overalls with a white turtleneck underneath. Both pieces are super comfy and from Topshop. She decided to mix textures by adding gray, velvet booties from Steve Madden. These boots were all the craze this year and are currently on sale, for under $80. Make sure to get a pair of these boots, which are perfect for any time of year.

For accessories, she added a personalized, gold Frasier Sterling choker. The more chokers you buy, the cheaper the price is, so save money and get your friends the raddest birthday present. Celebrities like Danielle Bernstein, Kim Kardashian, and more can be spotted wearing personalized chokers like this one. Every outfit needs a cute bag to compliment the look. This petite, black Chloe bag is just big enough to hold the essentials—lipstick and some cash. Super tiny bags were all over the spring 2017 runway. To finish off this look, she wore clear lens glasses. I mean, who doesn’t love a girl in glasses? Clear and colorful lenses are another huge fashion trend this spring.

If you want a killer outfit that nails all the latest fashion trends, this is the perfect outfit inspiration. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and try something new!

WHAT TO WEAR: Pretty in Purple

Move over jeans, this purple sweatsuit is stealing the show. Whether you’re planning to shop ‘til you drop or just window shop, this outfit is the perfect choice. With the weather fluctuating from 65 degrees one day to 20 degrees another, it can be very difficult to dress as we are transitioning from winter to spring. However, this babe picked the right outfit to survive this weather-confused month.

For this Fashionista’s look, she is sporting a plum purple matching sweatsuit by TNA from Aritzia. It’s super soft and lightweight, which means that she can look cute and casual while she’s shopping the latest fashion trends. Underneath the joggers, you can see her Express fishnets poking out to give the outfit a layered and edgier look. This New York native knows she needs comfy, yet stylish shoes if she’s going to make it through a five-hour shopping spree. These white boots from Urban Outfitters do the job of keeping her comfortable and on her feet all day long. She also added a petite, fluffy backpack from Boutique, which is perfect to hold your wallet and makeup while keeping your hands free. This bag allows you to grab as many pieces of clothing and accessories as possible with two hands.

As for makeup, this beauty kept it simple and clean. She left her skin dewy and fresh, and added mascara to accentuate her eyelashes. Lastly, on her lip, she used a MAC clear gloss to make her lips look natural and soft.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Fur ‘n’ Boots

Want to know how to take any look from dull to daring? It’s easy, just add details! Accessories can make any outfit stand out. They can take any basic look and make it into something unique. Whether you add a patterned scarf, a textured sweater or even a layered necklace, these pieces can be essential to making an outfit your own.

This Fashionista dressed up a typical lavender T-shirt by adding a faux fur vest and ripped jeans. Both pieces are super trendy and make the outfit edgy, yet casual. She paired her outfit with thigh high boots to make her look like a boss and feel confident all day long. Although she is 4’11 you would never know due to those rockin’ heels!

Even in 30 degree weather, this beauty made sure not to leave her sunglasses home. You never know when you will need to block out some shade. Under her sunglasses, she is sporting a brown and bronze smoky eye with a winged eyeliner to compliment her beautiful, dark brown eyes. On her lips, she is wearing Merry from Kylie Cosmetics holiday collection. For accessories, she kept it simple with a crystal moon necklace. Of course, what I love best about her look is her rings! My favorite is her gold and silver laurel leaves Pandora ring.  Her rings perfectly accent her newly done manicure. I love that she is not afraid to experiment with different colored nails and even add a touch of sparkle. In my opinion, a little glitter is always a good choice. This blonde babe definitely knows it is all in the details!

BEAUTY BAR: 50 Shades of Red

With cold weather and finals all slamming you at once, you will begin to feel the pressure of being a college student in the Northeast. Most students during finals week are drowning themselves in coffee and pulling all-nighters in the library. However, this beauty decided that she needed a break. When she is overwhelmed, she does her makeup to feel confident and ready to tackle on the day. If you need the perfect look to help you get through finals and ready for the holidays, then you have come to the right place!

For this look, she used Touch in Sol metallist liquid foil in the color Adelio as a base for her eyes. Next, she blended the colors Red Ochre and Venetian Red on the outer lid and blended through the crease. Then, she added Primavera on the lid and finished it off with Vermeer on the inner corners. All four colors used are from the Anastasia Beverly Hills modern renaissance palette–a must have! These colors perfectly accent her beautiful hazel eyes and makes them pop against her fair complexion. To brighten up her already glowing face, this Fashionista used BECCA in moonstone and champagne pop to highlight her cheekbones. Finally, she used MAC viva glam in the color AC5 on her lips to add the final touch.

This Long Island native is used to the harsh winds and freezing temperatures of New York, but she overcomes the winter chill in a white knit sweater and a bright red Michael Kors vest. In her monochromatic red outfit and makeup, she is ready to sleigh all winter long!

Don’t forget to study hard, stay warm, and look hot!

STYLE GURU BIO: Jenna Cappabianca

My name is Jenna and I am 18 years old. I am a freshman studying fashion merchandising and mass communications at Oneonta State University. When my senior year arrives, I plan to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology through Oneonta’s 3-1 fashion program.

This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be any more excited! It is the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for fashion and journalism. I love how the fashion industry is always changing and evolving. There are no limits or rules on what you can wear and that’s what makes it so unique and fun. Styling an outfit is truly a work of art and to perfect it, you need to remember the details! I am obsessed with rings and think they are a must with any look.

For today’s look, I wore a flowy, nude long sleeve knit shirt and matching nude suede booties ($12)—what a steal! I paired it with a black overcoat and faux fur collar. This jacket is from Sears and is perfect to keep you nice and toasty during the winter weather. For accessories, I added a wrap-around choker to spice up the outfit. Of course, one of my favorite things about this look are my rings. On my left hand, I am wearing a sterling silver and gold ring with a large turquoise gem on my middle finger and a Charles Krypell sterling silver ring on my thumb. However, my favorite is the diamond and garnet encrusted ring on my right hand that is extra special to me because it belonged to my grandmother.

This winter break I’m looking forward to eating good food, laughing, and spending quality time with my friends and family. I also can’t wait to fly to Florida this break and escape the cold weather.
