WHAT TO WEAR: Summer Style

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year—summer! The days are longer and the weather is warmer. It seems that everyone around campus is in a better mood. Another thing that comes with summer is the amazing fashion. Say goodbye to heavy coats and leggings and start breaking out the shorts and tank tops. Warm weather brings out everyone’s inner Fashionista.

One summer look that really caught my eye was this outfit. Jean skirts have made a big comeback this year and this Fashionista really knows how to style it. She pairs it with a simple green shirt which balances out the distressed look of the skirt. Adding a neutral colored sneaker to this outfit transforms it into a casual summer day look.

The simplicity of the basis of this outfit allows for her to add some bold detail pieces. The black beaded necklace adds structure to the top half of this look. The shine from the beads draws attention to this outfit. Adding a black belt with silver buckles pulls together the whole look.

If you’re looking for a comfortable yet fashionable outfit to wear this summer, take some advice from this Fashionista. Jean skirts are back, so don’t forget to get your hands on one before they’re sold out! A cute pair of shoes will complete any look you’re going for. And don’t forget—pairing simple articles of clothing with statement pieces will transform your everyday look into an outfit that every Fashionista will want to add to their wardrobe.

STYLE GURU STYLE: Preppy in the City

If there’s one thing that my friends would describe my style as, it’s preppy. My wardrobe ranges from monogrammed everything (literally everything, including winter boots) to Vineyard Vines and Lilly Pulitzer. Since a young age, I have been exposed to brands like these. While my style has changed a bit, I still hold on to my preppy roots when the seasons change.

The warm spring weather has given me the opportunity to break out my preppy side while going on adventures around the city. On this particular day, I decided to wear a pair of classic dark wash jeans with a white long sleeve shirt. This outfit gives me a put together look while keeping me cool and comfortable on warmer, sunny days.

Recently, I have come across belts from F. H. Wadsworth. Ribbon belts are a great way to complete any look. They add that extra pop of color and pattern needed in any outfit. Another way I finished off this outfit was pairing it with a cute baseball hat. This will keep the sun out of your eyes while walking down the city streets. Comfy shoes are always key when you know you will be doing lots of walking. The neutral color of these converse makes it easier to pair them with any outfit. Switch out these sneakers with a pair of wedges and add a cute statement necklace to transform this look for a night out.

Warm weather always makes me feel better about myself and my style. It gives me the opportunity to show off my preppy side, which normally gets hidden in the winter by puffy jackets and scarfs. So next time it’s warm out and you feel like switching up your normal style, try something on the preppy side!

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Black Leather

If there’s one that will never go out of style, it’s the color black. This winter the black on black trend has really taken off. Whenever I’m unsure of what to wear, anything black is my go-to. Walking through campus this week, I noticed this Fashionista’s amazing all black outfit. What caught my eye the most about this look was the details in each piece she was wearing. These small features really pull together the entire look, taking this outfit to a whole new level.

With the cold weather dropping even colder this month, it is important to stay warm. This Fashionista chose a black leather jacket. Underneath the jacket, a plain black scoop neck is tucked into her high waisted black jeans. The fur inside of this jacket not only makes this outfit stylish, but also adds a little extra warmth. There is also a fur trim around the cuffs of the sleeves and bottom of the coat. The buckles on the sleeves and the belt around the waist of the jacket provide a little extra statement to this jacket.

My favorite part about this look is definitely pairing it with these booties. The snakeskin pattern pops against the all black ensemble. Because the pattern on the shoes is a neutral color, they pull the entire look together. Making a bold statement with patterns in outfits is often hard to do, but this Fashionista pulled it off flawlessly. She finishes off her look with a simple initial necklace. The silver necklace matches the buckles one her jacket.

This outfit can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with a pair of boots. There are endless possibilities of outfit combinations when you have basics like these in your wardrobe. Wherever you’re going, whether it’s a night out in the city or going to class, an all black outfit is always a good choice.

STYLE ADVICE: Simple Statements

Visiting an old friend at Loyola University, I came across this Fashionista on campus. What caught my eye the most about this look was the small details that seemed to finish it off. Her simple yet put together outfit shows that one can be comfortable and look cute at the same time. We all know it’s hard getting ready for early morning classes. With basic pieces in your wardrobe, like the ones in this outfit, you can say goodbye to wearing your pajamas to class and start making fashion statements.

This Fashionista loves keeping up with the current trends and adding her own special touches to make her style more unique. She paired her gray sweater with a pair of black leggings. Looking closer, you’ll notice that these aren’t your typical plain black leggings. The herringbone patterned leggings take this look to a more high-fashion level.

Paring these pieces with black over-the-knee boots shows this Fashionista knows how to pull an outfit together. Suede boots are definitely at a high point in the fashion industry right now, and this girl knows how to rock them. The entire look is pulled together with a big statement necklace and a small ring on each hand. The simplicity of the rings completed the look without taking away from the beauty of this necklace.

Traveling to other colleges always gives me the opportunity to get outfit inspirations from new cities. I get to see the trends that happen on different campuses, not just my own. I will definitely be taking style tips from this Fashionista and invest in a pair of those leggings! Definitely a staple that needs to be in everyone’s closets this winter.

STYLE GURU BIO: Julia Levan

Hey fellow Fashionistas/os! My name’s Julia Levan. I am currently a sophomore at Temple University, majoring in marketing with a minor in healthcare management. I am originally from Reading, PA which is about an hour away from Philadelphia. When choosing which college I wanted to attend, I knew I wanted to be in a city. The fast-paced lifestyle is definitely my speed. This is my first semester interning with CollegeFashionista. Fashion has always been a huge part in my life so I’m extremely excited to begin this next chapter!

It is hard to say I have a distinct style. I can be spotted in anything ranging from heels and a trendy dress to leggings and a beanie. Fashion is all about trying new things and being yourself. Through my clothing I am able to express what I am feeling that day or what I want to show to others about myself. One thing that always seems to stick with my style, however, is neutral colors. It is easier to mix and match different pieces when the colors are simple and soft. This way, I am able to make more outfit combinations, making it easier to change up a look!

One of the newest pieces added to my wardrobe this semester was this rose-colored fur coat. Not only is it my favorite color, but also it’s extremely warm. With the chilly temperatures dropping even further in Philadelphia this winter, it is important to layer up! Along with my fabulous new coat, I have paired a beige turtleneck, jeans, and over-the-knee heeled boots. Since the coat is a big statement on its own, I like to keep my jewelry simple with some diamond earrings and my monogram necklace, a staple of mine that I never am caught without!

With this semester coming up, I cannot wait to see all the new trends around campus. College is the perfect time to experiment with new styles and learn what you like. Inspiration for new outfits is all around me constantly, giving me the opportunity to see what styles I love and ideas for what I should try next! No matter what it is, love yourself in what you wear. Confidence is the key to making an outfit complete.
