For my last article, I knew I wanted to feature this Fashionista. I met her this semester in class and always admired her sense of style. I approached her the other day and asked if she would be okay with being featured and it turns out she is a past Style Guru! Here, she is wearing a simple yet still put together outfit that is perfect for the weather we have been experiencing here in New Jersey. Some day’s its warm and humid while others are chilly and breezy so this outfit is the perfect compromise. Her skinny, distressed jeans give a more edgy vibe to the delicate, feminine sweater. Her stylish, pale pink, cat eye sunglasses are a nice accessory piece and ties together this whole look. I really love the lace-up detail on the back of the sweater. She paired this outfit with some simple, black leather ankle boots and Kate Spade sunglasses. Her sweater and jeans are from the brand Design Lab and can be found at Lord & Taylor. Her boots are from Lucky Brand. This Fashionista chose to wear this outfit because it is practical for the weather, comfortable and makes her look put together even though they are just simple pieces. I feel that distressed jeans, though they have always been a staple in everyone’s wardrobe, are becoming more and more popular. I think that these jeans are distressed the perfect amount. There are enough rips and tears to make it look edgy but still they look refined. To end this article, I just want to say thank you to anyone and everyone who has viewed and read my articles. This semester working as a Style Guru Intern has been so enjoyable and I hope to continue working with fashion and beauty in the future!

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fall in Love with Fall Trends
Autumn has always been my favorite season for fashion. I love incorporating warm tones such as burnt orange and neutrals such as olive green into my wardrobe to give any outfit a fall vibe. Sweaters and riding boots are staples in my wardrobe and I’m so excited that it’s finally time to break them out again! Being that it is November and the weather is finally starting to feel like fall, I have been on the lookout for my favorite fall trends around campus. In this month’s article I am featuring one of my classmates. Ever since the beginning of the semester, her outfits have caught my eye. She is always able to take basic pieces and turn them into such trendy outfits. I decided to approach her and ask her if I could feature her in this month’s article because I knew she would put together such a great outfit.
Here, she is wearing a burnt orange lace-up mini skirt paired with a simple black long-sleeve top and a fur vest. To complete her outfit she threw on some black suede booties. This, in my opinion, is the perfect fall outfit. All of these pieces are so basic but when paired together look so great on anyone. Her skirt can be found at Forever 21, her shirt is from H&M, her vest is from Aldo and her booties are from Charlotte Russe. Not only is this outfit super cute and appropriate for the fall weather, but the pieces themselves are affordable for us college girls on a budget. This Fashionista would normally wear this outfit for a night out with friends, however if she were to wear it to class, she would normally choose to pair it with a more casual boot to dress down the outfit.
I can’t wait to see what other outfits she and other Fashionistas around campus put together this season!
WHAT TO WEAR: It’s Game Day!
Game days are the best kind of days here at Rutgers University. No matter where you go you can find a tailgate, barbecue and overall just a fun time. The whole campus is taken over by a sea of red tees, tanks, dresses, etc. Here I am featuring my best friend Marlee. Her game day attire is simple, cute, comfortable, yet still spirited.
In a time where almost everyone wears oversized T-shirts as dresses to a game, Marlee chose to go with a cute, more traditional look. Here she is sporting a super cute and flowy Rutgers red sundress with a denim jacket. This is the perfect outfit for this time of year as the weather is transitioning from summer to autumn. The denim jacket is not only a cute addition to the sundress but is also necessary for breezy game day mornings. Marlee also added a white lace bralette under her dress for some added style.
Game days here at Rutgers are typically very busy. Before the games students often travel all over the five campuses to visit their friends at different tailgates/barbecues so it’s important to wear something comfy, including comfortable shoes. Marlee paired her outfit with a pair of classic black converse. Converse are a staple item in my opinion because they go well with almost any outfit and give everything a more casual and even sporty look. I would say that the overall vibe of her outfit is simple, cute and practical.
I asked Marlee what she looks for in a game day outfit and she said that she prefers, “something fun and different that I’ve never worn before. You don’t have to wear school apparel to show your spirit.” She also stated that she liked this particular outfit because she loves flowy dresses and the denim jacket kept her warm while still looking cute and put together. Marlee’s sundress is from Forever 21 and her sunglasses are from American Eagle Outfitters. Her white bralette can be found at Urban Outfitters.
STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Flowy and Fab for Summer
I can’t explain in words how excited I was when I was notified that I had been chosen to be a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I always wanted to share my thoughts and opinions about all things fashion and beauty with the world and CollegeFashionista gives me an awesome platform to do just that. As soon as I got that email, I knew immediately that I just had to feature my roommate and amazing friend, Michelle. I have always loved Michelle’s style and she is such an inspiration to me and my own personal style. Whether her pieces are from a thrift store or a store like Free People, Michelle always looks so trendy and put together. I would describe her style as very bohemian. Her style accurately depicts who she is as a person: casual, fun and eclectic. I take inspiration from Michelle quite often when I’m shopping or putting together an outfit. Michelle’s favorite places to shop are Free People, thrift stores or any boutique that she stumbles upon. One thing I really admire about Michelle is that she is always able to see the beauty and potential in such minimal, understated pieces. She can pick out a plain T-shirt and come up with a whole intricate outfit in her mind complete with layers, accessories and even a makeup look to match the vibe of the outfit.
Here, Michelle is wearing a super flowy and comfortable paisley print halter dress from Island Gypsy in Lavalette, NJ. This kind of dress is perfect for this time of year because it’s light enough where she won’t be too hot during the hotter summer days yet it covers her up enough that she doesn’t have to worry about being cold on breezy nights. Her black lace-up sandals from Dor L’Dor in Hoboken, NJ pair perfectly with her dress. The lace-up sandal trend is one that I’ve really been loving this summer. Michelle’s dangly gemstone earrings are from Free People. Gemstone pieces, whether it be earrings or a necklace, are staples in Michelle’s wardrobe and add a little something extra to tie any outfit together. Her everyday cross-body bag is by Rebecca Minkoff and is the style “Mini M.A.C.” This outfit looks so trendy and chic and, as usual, Michelle pulls it off so effortlessly.
STYLE GURU BIO: Kara Nasse
Hey everyone! My name is Kara and I am so excited to start this internship with CollegeFashionista! I am a rising junior at Rutgers University majoring in communication with a specialization in public relations as well as a minor in digital communication information and media (DCIM). Once I graduate I hope to land a job in the beauty industry doing PR or marketing! I have always been interested in fashion and beauty but my obsession really started in middle school when I discovered the wonderful beauty community on YouTube. To this day, I am ALWAYS watching makeup tutorials, style lookbooks, DIY fashion videos, etc. I also hope to one day have my own YouTube channel where I can share all of my style and makeup tips with the world.
Some of my hobbies, besides spending countless hours watching YouTube videos, include photography, photo editing, graphic design, experimenting with makeup, napping (probably way too often), cooking and watching Netflix. My favorite shows to binge watch are Narcos, The Office and New Girl; go check them out if you haven’t already, I promise you won’t regret it! I am completely coffee obsessed just like every other college student and truly believe that coffee can cure anything and everything.
I would describe my style as comfy and casual yet still fashionable. While I am guilty of wearing comfy athletic clothes to class way too often, I love dressing up and expressing myself through my outfits. I tend to stick to more basic pieces and neutral colors and dress them up with cute accessories. My go-to outfit is a cute t-shirt dress with a statement necklace. It’s cute, comfy and so effortless! My favorite accessory at the moment are my oversized mirrored aviator sunglasses; you won’t ever find me without them! I love how big they are and the gold mirrored lens makes any outfit look so much more fun and edgy. I purchased them from Quay Australia and they are the style “High Key” from their collaboration with makeup artist Desi Perkins. I love Quay Australia sunglasses because they are great quality and don’t break the bank. My favorite stores to shop at are H&M, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, Forever 21 and Zara.
I look forward to sharing my style and beauty tips with you all this semester!
