WHAT TO WEAR: Class

This time of year always presents the same issue. You have a closet stocked full of warm weather clothes, high-waisted shorts, cute tanks and breezy maxis. But how does one go about transitioning these pleasing pieces for the start of the fall season? I’m one of those people who have a spring/summer side of my closet and a fall/winter one and the two are not mixed. I blame that on my slight OCD tendencies, but I know I’m not alone in this. So I’ve made it my goal to seek out any and all Fashionistas/os who make the summer to fall transition stylishly.

This transition does not always have to mean cutting out all of your summer items, take note of this weeks Fashionista. Her maxi dress is an obvious summer staple yet it fits quite seamlessly into this beginning of fall transition. The darker colors are one factor that keeps this dress from favoring summer too much. Not only this, the pattern too keeps this dress balanced between the two seasons. That’s the great thing about tribal prints; they can easily be worn in any season. This maxi is the perfect pick for class in this awkward not quite summer, not quite wintertime period.

Make your summer to fall transition just as stylish with these options. This fit and flare dress from Target is just the right blend of both seasons. The neutral color variety keeps it simple and right in the middle of summer and fall. Quarter length sleeves make it comfortable for those cooler days and the lace detail keeps it a little reminiscent of summer. An added bonus, the belted fit and flare silhouette is always in. Another option is this Macy’s shirtdress. Shirt dresses are a wonderful creation if you ask me. The right blend of men’s and women’s as well as summer and fall. Effortless and easy describe this pick. The colors are neutral and the style is breezy enough for those days when the sun peeks out a little too much, yet covered enough that you won’t feel exposed when the clouds come in. In other words, this is a must have in any wardrobe.

One Simple Change: Transition this ensemble even further for a day out with friends. Impress your lovely ladies or lads by adding some focal jewelry pieces, maybe some dangly earrings or chunky bangles. That touch paired with some statement sandals or your favorite flats and you’re set.

WHAT TO WEAR: Day to Night

I have always thought of nine to five being something that only happens once you hit the professional working world. Boy, was I wrong. I have the pleasure of attending classes for an eight-hour chunk of time this semester. Never has burnt out held so much meaning. But a long day is a great excuse for a night out to let some steam off. So how does one pull off the transition of an eight-hour day of classes to a night out? It’s easy really; just take note of this week’s Fashionista.

From her top-knot bun to her leather ankle boots, this Fashionista has executed a pulled together look from head to toe. The base of this wonderful ensemble is the houndstooth print dress. The fit and flare silhouette is classic and flattering on literally everyone. This classic piece is paired with the perfect accessories. Whoever said black and brown shouldn’t be worn together obviously hadn’t seen this Fashionista’s ensemble. The brown belt cinches her waist in and complements the brown and black graphic scarf nicely. Adding a scarf was the perfect way to add some interest without taking the outfit too far over the top for a day of classes. Not to mention it’s the perfect fall accessory. Last, but definitely not least, are the black leather ankle boots. They’re a sassy touch that gives this ensemble just enough attitude. After classes, all this Fashionista would have to do is ditch the scarf and shades and she would be ready to hit the town for a much-deserved night out.

Transition your daytime look for a night out with these fashionable finds. This first dress from NastyGal is a simple transitional piece. Wear the dress to class with some sandals for a comfortable and easy ensemble. Then, with the simple addition of a statement necklace and some wedges or high-heeled booties you will have your night out ensemble ready. Another option is this Forever 21 skirt. A faux leather skater skirt is practically the definition of sass. Pair this with a basic tank tucked in or a simple crop top. The simple top will make it daytime appropriate and with the simple addition of some heels and jewelry it will transition to your new favorite night out look.

One Simple Change: Have a meeting with a professor packed into your busy day? Don’t fret; this look can be meeting ready with one simple addition. Throw on a classic cardigan and you will look polished and pulled together. Nine to five days don’t have to cramp a Fashionista/o’s style. With just a little bit of planning you can work your ensemble from sunrise to sunset.

WHAT TO WEAR: Class

From 90 degrees and blazing sun to 60 degrees and chilly downpour, all within a week. I guess I’ve got Colorado’s bipolar weather to blame for that sudden switch up. Not that I’m complaining, the cool weather is a much appreciated swap for the heat and it marks the beginning of my favorite season. The fall season is divine. Pumpkin spice lattes, autumn leaves and cozying up in your biggest sweater, cliché I know, but what’s not to love. Now all of those things are great nonetheless what I really love is the changing fashion. Bring on the boots, sweaters and scarfs, because I’m ready for some fall fashion.

I know it can be tempting to throw on some sweats and a hoodie on gloomy days but why not put in a little extra effort, who knows who you might run into. Take this Fashionisto for example. He manages to keep his cool, while staying warm, on these rainy days. It’s as simple as his casual light wash denim paired with a fleece pullover. Keeping things easy, he pairs the look with some sneakers and a hat, perfect for the rain. The look makes him seem pulled together while still being at ease, I believe some people call this “steeze.” Whatever you call it, he looks on point and ready to take on a day of classes.

Want some “steeze” of your own? I’ve got some pieces that can give you just that. This pullover from Macy’s is a must have for any Fashionisto’s wardrobe. The variety of color options makes it an easy piece to fit in with your existing clothes and its classic design will always be in style. Make this into an ensemble just by adding some denim or khakis, depending on your taste, and some sneakers. Another great piece to add to your wardrobe is this H&M sweater. This piece is versatile as well, coming in three neutral colors with a fit that’s flattering and easy to throw on. The drawstring hood is a nice feature to have as well, especially when the weather takes a turn. Pair this sweater with some twill pants or corduroys or, if that’s not your style, jeans can just as easily be worn with it. So take your pick, I guarantee you won’t regret picking up either of these fashionable finds.

One Simple Change: Meet a cutie on your way to class? Not a problem, make this look casual date night ready in a flash. Ditch the hat, mind your manners men, and swap the everyday sneakers for a nicer pair of kicks. Do this and you will impress that lucky lady no doubt.

WHAT TO WEAR: Casual Date Night

One more week down and it’s almost time for the much-anticipated weekend. Not to be too drastic, but I live for those late nights and lazy days. After a full week of classes, the weekend is well deserved. The best part is you get to spend that time anyway you like.

This Fashionista has a hot date on her weekend agenda. Her ensemble is spot on for a first date. The chevron-striped pattern and bow detail on the bodice make this dress flirty and fun. This flirtatious vibe is also carried out in the faux denim fabric used for the skirt. Faux denim adds some attitude to the dress and keeps it from looking too cutesy, if you will. Wedges are, of course, the perfect addition to this little number. Black strappy wedges further accentuate the attitude of this ensemble and give the look a swanky touch. So it’s easy to say that this Fashionista is date night ready and trust me quite a few heads will be turned.

Turn heads for your next date night. This first find from H&M is a great option that can be dressed up or down depending on what your plans are. Maxis are classy and different than the ordinary date night ensemble. The sheer black overlay on this one gives the look some sass while the simple gray tank bodice keeps it from being too much. Paired with some sandals and a statement necklace, this dress will get you all the right kinds of attention. This next find from Nordstrom is a little more daring. The dress comes in some great bright colors and features a sexy cutout feature. Since the cutout is on the sides, it keeps the dress from being too skin baring. Keep this look simple with some sandals and a cute pair of earrings.

One Simple Change: Crunched for time? Not a problem. Take this look from class to classy date night with one tiny tweak. This dress can easily be worn to classes just as long as you keep the rest of the outfit simple. Throw on some sandals and keep the jewelry to a minimum. Then, when it comes time for your date, put on your favorite wedges and your choice of earrings or some matching bracelets. That’s it; a simple change of shoes is all you need to transition this dress from day to night.

STYLE GURU BIO: Nicole Leicht

I’m back at it again. This fall I’m returning as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and couldn’t be more excited. I will be beginning my junior year at Colorado State University. Pursuing a degree in Apparel Design and Production, Journalism and Technical communication has allowed me to study what I’m passionate about.  Considering these passions of mine, an internship with CollegeFashionista is the perfect fit and such a great experience.

I’m a Colorado girl born and raised and love being able to continue my education here at CSU. Fashion has always been one of my main interests; I think its essential for our self-expression and is a fascinating ever-changing field. Not to mention it’s fabulous so what’s not to love. Aside from fashion, I also love photography and writing. One day you will see me writing for your favorite fashion magazine, at least that’s the plan.

This past summer I wrote under the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column. I would go out weekly and find the most fabulous Fashionistas to feature. I would then write about their ensembles and how to make it work for your own closet. This allowed me to get out there and be inspired by some awesome people and hopefully inspire all of you readers. This fall I will be writing for the WHAT TO WEAR column. I will be finding the top notch Fashionistas/os on campus to bring to you guys. Each week will be a different occasion and will give you the low down on what you could wear. I can’t wait to bring you guys the best style advice for any occasion, whether it is class, heading to the gym or even date night.

One dilemma I keep running into is how to look fashionable while getting my workout on.

This Fashionista caught my eye right away. Her workout ensemble is functional and cute, what more could you ask for. The blue A-line tank is a great option for these hot summer days.  It’s a great fit and super flattering. Pairing the top with some black workout shorts keeps the look simple and wearable. As far as bottoms go, these Victoria’s Secret capris are a great option. One of the best features of these bottoms is the wide variety of bright colors available allowing everyone to pick what works for them. Capris are also a great option for those yoga or Pilates classes. Pair these two pieces together and you will be combining fashion and fit flawlessly.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Country Chic

This summer one of my main hobbies has been living vicariously through my friends. It’s because they have all been attending some of the summer’s best country concerts. Who doesn’t want to enjoy the summer sun while jamming out to some Jason Aldean or Kenny Chesney? I know I wouldn’t mind it. The closest I’ve gotten to that is blaring the latest country hits in my car while cruising, but that won’t stop me from finding some Fashionistas with country style.

This Fashionista has nailed the perfect country concert ensemble. Of course the standout piece here is the cowgirl boots. Theses boots simple tan shade is versatile and easy to pair with virtually any outfit, but they still are attention getting with their intricate design detail in white. Keeping with the country chic feel, she pairs her boots with a vibrant sundress. This piece is the perfect shade of pink to complement her summer tan and the design is simple and easy to throw on. By pairing the dress with a tan bow belt, this Fashionista accentuates the waist and adds a fun girly touch. This whole ensemble is just dying to be seen at the nearest country concert.

Prepare for your next concert with these picks. My first pick is this American Eagle fit and flare dress. This dress comes in three shades that would all easily pair with your cutest cowgirl boots. Not only this, but also the fit and flare silhouette is always flattering and can easily be accessorized with a belt or even a chunky necklace. The open back feature is flirty and perfect for the summer heat. For those ladies looking for something to pair with your favorite summer cut-offs or cutest high-waisted shorts, this LuLu’s cami is just the thing. This white cropped cami is perfect for a country night out; the crochet halter feature is fun and attention getting while the flowy fit is easy and comfortable. Throw this top on with your jean shorts and some boots and you are ready to sing and dance the night away.

Whether you’re spending your summer nights at watching some live country music or just jamming to the next best thing, your car stereo, you can still work your cutest country ensemble. After all, every occasion is a chance to show your inner Fashionista.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sugar and Spice

Do you ever find yourself in a struggle between good and bad? I do when it comes to my style; I can’t seem to get enough of both the good girl and the bad girl trends. Naturally, the solution is to blend the two but this is sometimes easier said than done. To mix the good and the bad successfully, it takes just the right amount of both to create a unique and irresistible blend. So I’ve made it my duty to find a Fashionista who embodies this good girl gone bad style.

This Fashionista caught my eye. She is the perfect blend of good girl with just a hint of bad. Her pink dress with lace trim is just the enough good without going overboard or being too cutesy. With the addition of a black leather vest, she takes her ensemble to the dark side but not too far. The stud embellishments make the vest a showpiece sure to grab some attention. The black combat boots and knee-highs make this look complete. My search for a good girl gone bad was a success.

Looking to steal this Fashionista’s impeccable taste, here are some pieces to give you a start. This leather mini from Nasty Gal is a staple to the good girl gone bad trend. This versatile mini could be paired with a flowy feminine top and some black wedges for a night out. Or possibly throw on a simple tank and a statement necklace for girls’ night out. For a classic good girl piece, check out this Forever 21 dress. The floral print is just the right amount of sweet and can easily be paired with some sassier pieces like a biker jacket or some combat boots. Don’t be afraid to make the look your own.

There’s just something about the good girl gone bad trend, it keeps things exciting and you know what they say, sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what us Fashionista’s are made of.

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Beach Dreamin’

I spend way too much time daydreaming of having my feet in the sand and soaking up the sun by some clear blue water. Who doesn’t want to be spending their summer on the beach though? Maybe it’s all this time spent wishing for the bright blue waters is making me obsessed with bright teal colors. My favorite part about this vibrant hue is that it brings a little bit of the beach to my landlocked state.

This Fashionista is working her beach hues. The bright teal of her blouse is ultra flattering against her bronzed skin and perfect for the summer sun. The laid back fit is comfy and still cute. The cinched waist detail is flattering on so many bodies and gives the blouse some shape. Lace insets on the shoulders gives this top some more interest give it a summer vibe. By pairing her top with some dark skinnies and a pair of embellished sandals, she keeps the ensemble easy and versatile for many occasions.

Bring the beach to your closet with these finds. This dress from Nordstrom is the for the summer sun. The teal hue is fresh and statement making. The cinched waist can easily be belted and the cut out back detail is unique. This dress is just right for a dinner date with your friends. Or you could go with this top from Dillard’s. The same bright teal shines in this flowy top. The lace trim on the sleeves and the lace inset in the back keeps things interesting. Paired with some white shorts and statement sandals, this top is perfect for a summer night out. Take it from me; the beach can be anywhere you want it to be with a little imagination so put on your brightest teals and soak up that sun.
