The Guide to Summer Intern Wear

For most college students, summer months are not just filled with beach resorts, pool parties, and barbecues. Rather, there is an added stress to obtain a top-notch internship—one that will provide us with work experience and pave the way towards our future careers. Once given this opportunity, there is always a concern about what to wear. Not knowing your future coworkers or the way they dress may pose to be a problem for some, but don’t fret! This Fashionista has come up with three easy and trendy outfit choices that will allow you to dress to impress on your first day, no matter where you end up working.

1—The DIY jumpsuit. Anyone can agree that wearing a jumpsuit to work will leave you looking chic and sophisticated. However, jumpsuits are sometimes expensive and hard to find. This Fashionista pulls off her own DIY jumpsuit by choosing to wear a simple black spaghetti-strap blouse, tucked into her black slacks. The key to this inventive look is to make sure the colors of your top and bottom are the same shade so that the outfit is uniform for the “jumpsuit-like” look. To make an impression, she has also added a long tasseled silver statement necklace and complemented the outfit with a pair of black chunky sandals.

2—The blazer. Opting for a more “smart-casual” look? This Fashionista pairs her go-to black pants and chunky sandals with a crisp white spaghetti-strap blouse, adding a gray cotton blazer on top. To add a pop of color to the outfit, she decides to wear a turquoise rectangular-shaped statement necklace. Picking out the perfect necklace is central to emulating this look; the addition of this single accessory will immediately transform your ensemble from basic to elegant.

3—The floral dress. Floral prints are always a summer staple, so why not integrate the pattern into your internship attire? This Fashionista chooses to wear a red, black, and white rose printed dress, a cold shoulder style that is accented with delicate black lace along the collarbone. The secret to pulling off any dress at work is in the length; always make sure it is not too short and you will be good to go!

The Art of Streetwear

On the surface, streetwear may be a style that solely consists of plain graphic T-shirts, hoodies, sneakers, and baseball caps. However, with every simple design comes an underlying piece of complexity. To designers, their work is a piece of programmatic art that is much more than a trend; their style stems from the street culture that they have grown up in and ultimately created for themselves. As a fashion choice, street-wear has won over many hearts as a preferred style, ranging from a casual look worn to class, to being worn on the runways of New York Fashion Week. Their clothing items are often hard to purchase, with most brands choosing specific days to drop their “exclusive” items.

This Fashionisto has chosen to show his go-to everyday look, one that he would wear to class or hang out with his friends. He chooses to wear his pink Anti-Social Social Club hoodie, a staple option for many hype street-wear aficionados. He had “copped” this hoodie during one of their first drops when the designer was just releasing his first few pieces to the public. The hoodie is one that can be worn in addition to any outfit, as seen on top of his over-sized, long-line, light gray T-shirt from H&M that he wears underneath.

Although he owns several different variations of the hoodie, he chooses to wear this pink option, as an ode to the millennial pink color that is trending now. To create a stark contrast to his outfit, he paired his statement hoodie and light gray T-shirt with dark black skinny jeans and pirate black Yeezys, another popular purchase of street style. To complete his look, he added on a vintage, Philadelphia Union trucker cap from Adidas.

Each of these clothing items can be interchanged to be worn with other pieces, emphasizing the versatile nature of the street-wear culture. The key to perfecting the street style look is to create a personalized outfit based on your own pairings of the simple, yet edgy options that designers are producing.

Summer Eyeshadow Guide

Summer is here, and it is finally time to incorporate bold and bright colors into our looks! No matter what our fashion choice is, there will always be eyeshadow options that will allow our faces to pop. This Fashionista paired different summer outfits with three playful eye looks. Take a look below:

Pop of Pink: Break out your favorite hot pink and magenta eyeshadows, and blend it in with a lighter nude to create an ombré effect over the lid. This trend works best if contrasted with a simple outfit such as this white off-the-shoulder top and frayed jeans. Make sure to focus on your eyes by keeping everything else on your face simple too. A nude lipstick and a touch of champagne pink highlight is all that you need to keep your glow.

Sunset Eyes: Brighten up your summer day with a blend of vibrant orange and yellow hues over the eyelid, to create the popular “sunset look”. Go all out and pair this bold eye choice with a floral summer bodysuit and ripped jeans so you can really stand out! Once again, to make your eyes the center of attention, choose a nude lipstick and add a peach-toned highlighter to the cheekbone. Go ahead and contour with a glistening bronzer to complete your overall sun-kissed look.

Purple Smoky Eye: Who says dark colors can’t be used in the summer? Move away from the boring grey and black tones normally used to create a smoky eye, and blend in a stark lavender color onto the outer corner of your lid. Gradually create a contrast by adding in a sparkly pink base and lining the waterline with a striking purple hue. This will create the playful smoky effect that everyone knows and loves.
