How I Achieved the Perfect Glam Makeup Look

Picture this: you’ve been invited to a fun event and you’ve found the most stunning dress and heels. You even narrowed down your preferred hairstyle. However, after trying on the outfit, you’ve realized that you haven’t figured out what kind of makeup look will suit the occasion. Do you go for minimal and playful or daring and bold?

This is my go-to glam makeup look. I’ve created a makeup look that’s suitable for any occasion, no matter the time of day. I have brown eyes and my skin has a yellow undertone. To determine what kind of shade(s) best fit your undertones, check your veins. Look at whether they appear blue or green. If they appear blue, it means you have a cool skin tone and if they appear green, it means you have a warm skin tone. Nonetheless, anyone can rock all sorts of colors on their eyes. It’s all about what makes you feel confident!

1—Brows: I used the Elf Cosmetics Lock On Liner and Brow Cream to define my brows.

2—Eyes: The Morphe Brushes 35O Palette is my holy grail palette; it immediately caught my eye because of the beautiful mix of warm neutrals. The eyeshadows are pigmented and blend smoothly. For my eye look, it’s all about blending and packing on different shades of oranges, reds, and browns. Then, I pop a shimmery shade in the middle of the eye. If it doesn’t come out right the first time, don’t worry; that’s why there are makeup wipes. Practice makes perfect!

3—Face: I used the Aveeno Daily Moisturizer, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, Too Faced “Born This Way” Foundation, Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer, Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder, Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette, Wet N’ Wild Coloricon “Apricot in the Middle” Blush, Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in “Champagne Pop,” and the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray.

This line from Too Faced has a variety of colors, so I’m sure you’re able to color match yourself. It’s a medium to full coverage and looks flawless on the face. I use a beauty sponge to apply this foundation evenly onto my skin.

4—Lashes: I used Maybelline’s Volum’ Express The Colossal Big Shot Mascara and then put on my Ardell Demi Wispies Lashes.

Ardell was the first brand I tried when it came to false eyelashes. Truthfully, I never knew why people applied falsies until the day I tried them on. This brand is great for beginners; they’re affordable and reliable.

5—Lips: I applied the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in the shade “Lovebug.” I stumbled upon this brand on Instagram; I’ve purchased many of their products and they do not disappoint. You know you use a makeup product a lot when the labeling rubs off, am I right?

The 5 Must-Have Summer Accessories for Women

Time to bring on the heat! By now, we’ve transitioned our closet from sweats and jackets to denim shorts and crop tops. It may be a tough deciding what you want versus what you need for the summer. Though you can never have enough clothes and shoes, it’s always good to declutter. Whether you’re going on vacation with your family/friends or attending summer school (like I am), the following five accessories are an absolute must for summertime—a pair of sunglasses, a sticky bra, a pair of slide sandals, a bathing suit, and a hat.

Sunglasses.
Having a pair of shades is essential. Not only do they protect your eyes from the blazing, hot sun as you drive and walk around, but also adds a nice touch to any summer outfit. There are all kinds of different frames from cat eye, aviators, round, or oversized. It’s all up to you and what compliments your face shape. I for one, love the aviators and oversized look! Sunglasses can range from $5 to $200+. It’s great to invest in a pair because after all, they’re going to be your best summertime companion.

Sticky Bra.
For those who are obsessed with anything and everything off-the-shoulder, a sticky bra is a definite must. A sticky bra is an adhesive bra that is made of silicon to support your breasts. It sticks to your breasts and stays there without having the hassle of hiding bra straps. You’re able to use a sticky bra more than once and trust me, they’re not uncomfortable when wearing a strapless/backless/frontless clothing.

Slide Sandals.
You can stray away from sneakers and boots and still feel secure and comfy. The ease of slipping on some sandals and heading out the door makes it convenient for every day. It’s a simple yet chic sandal. You can wear these with jeans, a dress or a skirt and still look put together. It’s a great twist on typical flip-flops.

Bathing suit.
A cute bathing suit to give you a boost of confidence is much needed when you plan your beach getaway or simply enjoying your day in your backyard pool. I’ve been noticing a ton of girls sporting one-pieces or high-waisted swim suits lately. Wear a bathing suit that makes you comfortable and gives you that “bae-watch” feeling.

Hat.
On those days where you don’t feel like doing your hair or you’re in a rush, throwing on a hat is the perfect way to quickly head out the door looking good. There are hats for any occasion—visors, fedoras, baseball caps, or floppy hats. Aside from being protecting your head and face from the sun’s rays, a hat is also the perfect accessory to jazz up any summer outfit.

Aside from these top five accessories, always remember to keep cool and stay hydrated!

WHAT TO WEAR: For The Love of Stripes

Spring is here, which means it’s time to bring out the fun prints and vibrant colors! I’m aware some people stray away from it because it may look overwhelming, but trust me. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to add a pop of color or print to an outfit. I believe whenever a new season arrives, it means time to shop for new clothes! Since it’s spring, I’ve been eyeing a ton of colorful pieces. There are so many cute items out on the market right now and I just can’t seem to contain my excitement.

While I was walking to my next class, I spotted this gentleman sporting a red striped lightweight sweater with beige pants and red converse. The perfect casual school outfit for a chilly, sunny day out. I say chilly and sunny all in one because California weather is transitioning from fall to spring, so it’s a bit confused. I wanted to recreate this look myself. I love it’s simplicity and as of right now, red is one of my favorite colors. I found this unique varsity striped knit sweater, twill cargo skinny pants, and instead of Converse, I opted for these Adidas Originals gazelle suede sneakers, since I’ve been seeing this brand everywhere.

This look is comfy and stylish. Stripes are a great statement to rock. It really elevates an outfit from plain Jane to chic, sporty, elegant, you name it. I admire an outfit that isn’t your typical white tee and denim jeans look, although that look is great too. All in all, stripes never go out of style.

BEAUTY BAR: Just Wing It

School is in session, which means there’s more time studying and sleeping and less time getting ready. Props to those who can study and sleep efficiently and are able to look good each day. I, for one, try to study as much as I can, sleep until I’m annoyed of snoozing my alarm, and rush to get ready in the morning. What matters to me is getting to my classes on time, whether I look like a hot mess or not. On the bright side, there are days where I’m able to take some time choosing what outfit to wear or what kind of makeup look I want to go for. Those are the best days.

As I was walking to leave campus the other day, I noticed this Fashionista’s long, healthy hair. Then, as I was talking to her, I noticed her makeup looked so on point! She told me it only took her 15 to 20 minutes to choose her outfit, do her makeup and hair, and walk out the door. I was pretty amazed. She told me for her hair, she doesn’t use heat. She just combs through her hair using her Wet Brush. As for makeup, she used the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation, e.l.f. Cosmetics Instant Light Brow PencilNYX Two Timer Eyeliner, and for her lipstick, it was an ultra matte liquid lipstick in the shade “notion” from Colourpop.

Her liner looked so sharp, it could cut me. In all seriousness, I’m sure we can all agree some days, we just have to wing it—whether it’s what outfit to wear that day, your makeup look, eating breakfast, what to do that day, or simply winging your liner. School can be stressful, but it is important to stay calm, prioritize, and feel confident in whatever you decide to wear.

STYLE GURU BIO: Tuyen Bui

Because of fashion, I’ve learned to love myself. There was a time in my life where my mind was clouded with negativity, hatred for my appearance, and loneliness although I had family, friends, and a significant other. When I first entered college, the ugly thoughts began to consume me. It quickly began to affect me as a student. I withdrew from the university. I took a year off to find myself. Everyone encourages you to attend college right after high school, yet no one knows what you’re going through. Receiving an education is vital, but having a positive attitude is the ultimate key to success in life. Long story short, I’m a Vietnamese Asian-American girl who struggles with her inner demons but will not be defeated without a fight. I’m currently attending a community college back at home where I will soon be transferring to Sacramento California State University next year! I’m so happy to say I have found my career and passion.

Aside from being a daughter, sister, friend, girlfriend, employee, and student, I am a fashion blogger. While trying to balance my life, what I enjoy the most is blogging. I love sharing my ideas, personal style, fashion trends, and makeup looks. For instance, here I have an outfit that’s great for any day or night. I love sticking with neutrals and adding a pop of color like this mustard faux suede moto jacket. As for my shoes, I went for classic black pointed booties. To bring an outfit together, sometimes all one needs is accessories. I chucked on this hat not only to mask my undone hair but to bring the outfit to life.
