3 Business Casual Outfits You Should Try Now

With the fall season approaching, August is the perfect time to stock up on back-to-school clothing. While I absolutely love fall fashion, I also have to think about business appropriate outfits that I need to purchase as well. As a business student and an ambassador for my school, I often have to attend professional events, presentations, and network outings where dressing business proper is mandatory. Over the past two years, I would always stick to the same outfit combination of a black skirt, a black blazer, and a blouse. This year, however, my goal is to get the job done in style. With this article, I’m sharing my recent picks for three business casual outfits that I put together for my upcoming Macy’s Magnates Conference.

1—Classy and elegant.

For my first outfit, I went with a simple but classy look. I paired patterned pencil skirt and a high-neck white blouse. A pencil skirt is definitely a must-have for a business wardrobe of any woman; it’s feminine, elegant, and can be paired with many tops that are different colors and textures. Instead of wearing a regular black pencil skirt, I chose this tartan black and white one; it makes the outfit more interesting while still remaining appropriate. This combo is perfect desk-side or even for an interview. Just make sure to wear a black blazer.

2—Fun and edgy.

The second outfit is definitely a more fun one and can be useful for hot summer days. For this look, I wore black pleated Bermuda shorts with a simple white blouse. This combo can be worn anywhere from class to networking dinners. Paired with a bright red blazer, this outfit definitely makes a statement. As long as it’s done in a sophisticated way, don’t be afraid to add some color to your business wardrobe—it’s a power move that can get you noticed.

3—Simple and trendy.

This last outfit is definitely the most relaxed one out of the three: dark wash skinny jeans, a tan blazer, and a patterned blouse. This combination is very casual, yet business appropriate and can be worn for an in-class presentation or a meeting for one of your extracurricular activities on campus. My favorite brown leather watch completes the look.

When it comes to dressing business appropriate, don’t forget to show a glimpse of your personal style. Being yourself is the most important thing you can do to feel confident and empowered at any event. Don’t stick to just wearing all black (unless you’re required to) and add different colors and patterns to your career wardrobe. However, do keep in mind that the looks I talked about in this article are more suited for business casual events and not business professional. When it comes to professional attire, stick to a more conservative look with dark, solid colors and keep it simple.

Why You Should Try a Rusty Red Lip for Summer

Here’s the thing: I love makeup. It’s fun, creative, challenging, and extremely rewarding. Wearing it in the summer, however, is not so fun. My face gets sweaty and the heat completely melts the makeup off. Personally, I don’t ever put anything on my face when spending the day outside or tanning by the pool. I’m sure many of you are the same way; this can definitely cause some issues when going out to a party or dinner. Luckily, this look will help you pull something quick but elegant together and not waste your expensive products.

In this post, I’ll show you how I get this easy summer makeup featuring a bold rusty red lip that lasts. Summer is the perfect time to use a warm color palette in your arsenal. Instead of wearing a dark burgundy lip, go with bright pink or brick orange. After all, colors like that look best in the summer and especially in the sun, so you shouldn’t miss out! But wait, what’s the best part about this look? I created it using all drugstore products, so you don’t have to feel bad about taking your makeup off if you’re going to the pool.

How to Get the Look

Since it’s summer, I always start out my makeup routine by applying a moisturizer that contains sunscreen in it. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to wear sunscreen in the summer. Even if I’m not planning on being outside the whole day, I always put sunscreen with light SPF on before applying other products. For foundation, I use Maybelline foundation that keeps my face looking poreless and matte. As for mascara, waterproof Maybelline Big Lash mascara gets the job done. I love using waterproof products in the summer because they help me keep my makeup look fresh in the hottest weather. Since this was a fancier look for a dinner date, I also did my eyeliner but only applied it on the outer half of my lids.

I highly recommend not to wear any eyeshadow in the summer, because it usually doesn’t stay on well. Instead, I use a bronzer to contour my cheekbones and apply it in the crease of my eyes to give them more definition. Last but not least, the accent of this look, is, of course, on the lips. To get this rusty red lip, I used NYX lip cream in color Morocco. It’s soft, doesn’t dry out my lips, and smells amazing.

To make the whole look even more summery and fun, I added half-up Dutch braids. They are easy to do and keep the hair off my face in the hot weather. For the outfit, I paired a white crop top and a denim button-front skirt together; a simple but trendy outfit like this doesn’t take the focus away from the makeup and hair and really complements the rusty red lip color.

How-To Style a Simple Beach-Chic Look

Have you ever tried to pull off a quick beach-chic look for a poolside gathering or a boating trip? It can be harder than it seems! In this post, I’ll show you an easy and stylish look that you can create using items you already own. But first, let me tell you a little bit more about myself.

This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I’m so excited to be a part of the team! I am a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati, studying finance and marketing. Fashion has always been a big part of my life and I’m looking forward to sharing my style advice and thoughts on fashion with all of you. I love being able to create a stylish outfit using must-have pieces and dressing it up with the right accessories. My style, in one sentence, can be described as Blair Waldorf meets Katherine Pierce; it’s glamorous, chic, classic and ladylike. I’m not one to go after all of the new trends, instead, I prefer to shop for clothes that will remain a staple in my closet for months to come.

Wearing a beachy look like this when going boating last weekend definitely made me feel like I was on vacation. It’s perfect for your next weekend getaway, pool parties, and family barbecues. Here, I am wearing a light blue striped romper, which gives you the perfect nautical edge while remaining casual. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to wear white and blue: the colors are not only perfect for being by the water but are also great for holidays like Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

I’m pairing this romper with my favorite fedora hat, which I love wearing anytime I’m out in the hot sun. As for the jewelry, a gold layered necklace and a stack of gold bracelets help me take this outfit to a more stylish level. The big straw beach bag really completes the look: it’s not only sizable enough to keep all my sunscreen sprays, water bottles, and a bathing suit together but also makes a fashion statement with its gold color and rope-like handles. I wanted to keep all my accessories gold, so for the shoes, I went with the gold gladiator sandals. The details are really the key to making this simple outfit look edgy and more fun.

Whether you are renting a boat for a day or planning a tropical vacation, this outfit is calling your name. To create a similar look, use a beachy romper like mine and spice it up with some jewelry, a fedora, and a beach tote.
