ALL IN THE DETAILS: Pops of Millennial Pink

We’ve all heard it time and time again, “No white before Memorial Day and after Labor Day.” As a young Fashionista, I believed this fashion rule to be true. I’d pack away my whites in September and keep them hidden until the end of May. But as I’ve grown up, I’ve learned that some rules are meant to be broken. A refreshing blast of white before Memorial Day may be my favorite fashion rule to break, and it seems like I’m not the only one.

`This Fashionista used a girls day downtown as a perfect excuse to break one of fashion’s biggest rules. She showed us just how easy an all-white outfit can be by pairing an essential pair of white jeans with a breezy, white embroidered top for a look that screams summer. Her stacks of bracelets and natural-looking hair and makeup help the look feel even more effortless and summer-proof.

However, this Fashionista takes her look from easy-breezy summer ready to perfectly on-trend with subtle details of 2017’s hottest color: millennial pink. Can we just talk about those shoes for a second? I’m still obsessing over this Fashionista’s baby pink Adidas Superstars. The color is so beautiful, and the snakeskin textured accents make them even more unique. This Fashionista also added a second pop of millennial pink to her outfit by matching her earring to her shoes!

Whether you feel like breaking fashion’s big rule or not, it’s almost time for all-white outfits to make their annual return to staple status in the fashion world. Just like this Fashionista, you can make summer whites your own through little details, from a pop of pink to a stack of sentimental bracelets.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Summer Fun

School is out Fashionistas! For three months we do not have to worry about homework, exams, or studying! We can spend time with our friends, get a tan, and have fun! One of the best parts about being home is being able to relax and not have to stress over school. Temperatures are warming up and we can put away our winter clothes. Fashionistas, this summer, experiment with your wardrobe and wear something that you would not normally wear but are still comfortable in.

My favorite trend this summer is the off the shoulder top. It can be dressed up or down and comes in so many different varieties! Our shoulders have been hidden all winter and its finally time to bring them out and get rid of the lingering tan lines from spring break.

I saw this Fashionista at a cute café in my town on a beautiful day. She told me that her favorite style is preppy and loves accessorizing simple outfits with colorful purses and her favorite bracelets.

She is wearing a black and white horizontal striped off the shoulder top with black jeans and black flats. This shirt is perfect to wear with skinny jeans on a chilly day or a pair of colored shorts. This Fashionista carried a baby pink Kate Spade purse to add a pop of color to her outfit.

One of my favorite parts of her outfit is her watch that has a world map as the face. It is such a simple accessory but still brings a lot of character to the outfit and it says a lot about this Fashionista and her love for traveling. She also accessorized with different gold bracelets and layered necklaces.

Take advantage of this summer to try some new styles and have fun! I love reading fashion magazines while getting my tan on the beach so I can catch up on the latest trends and think of how I can incorporate trends into my own wardrobe and personal style. Make sure to relax and not stress out about the upcoming semester. Happy summer, Fashionista!

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Dudes Dressed in Denim

Make way, summer weather! Breaking out your favorite pair of shorts when it is finally warm out is almost as satisfying as a cool glass of lemonade on a sunny day. This Fashionisto loves his khaki mid-length jean shorts with frayed cuff cuts. Mixing a jean button-up with non-denim bottoms can be just as cool as a denim-on-denim look. Both gentlemen and gals can jazz up denim outerwear with lapel pins, buttons, patchwork, or DIY embroidery. The possibilities are endless. Sulphur washes and overdye treatments provide an authentic, lived-in look. Investing in high-quality pieces will ensure versatility and longevity.

This spring/summer look was inspired by the 2013 Calvin Klein Jacket shoot. This is a timeless ensemble that will always remain on trend. This outfit can be achieved with a denim top, khaki bottoms, and a neutral shirt.

This dapper Fashionisto accessorizes with a very cool belt from F.H. Wadsworth, which is perfect for this time of year. The grosgrain ribbon fabric is breathtaking in this shade of red-orange. The silver tone D rings really sparkle in the sunlight (in the most manliest way possible, of course). My favorite pop of color is this belt, along side what I like to call the “John Lennon sunglasses.” These teashade-shaped sunglasses really pop with this neutral outfit in its yellow-orange tint. While wearing an outfit only colored in neutrals, it is really important that you accessorize to your full potential in vivid color. The embroidered blue jean hat was found at a local thrift shop. Unique items like this are perfect finds and make the individual’s style unique to them.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Sliding Into Summer

Here in Western Pennsylvania, “springing” into spring and summer, is not the easiest thing to do, when the average temperature may only be around 50 degrees. However, you must take the days as they are given to you, and work with what you have. This Fashionisto does that, by incorporating fun, bright colors into his wardrobe, while maintaining the light spring feel. It is difficult to use season-appropriate colors, when the temperature makes you think winter is coming. Despite the harvest-colored accent, the white base in this outfit, is extremely important, as it livens the look up, and provides a fluid pop of a season-appropriate color.

The solid white points in this look, are not only well balanced, but also bring a light summer flair. It can be a challenge to look ready for summer, and not be freezing, but this is a great way to do so. The white sneakers prove you no longer have to trek through two feet of snow, the white cap can block out some warmer weather sun, and the white hoodie allows you to showcase any tan or lighter hair, that you may have already acquired. The cap also ties the white base, and the plaid flannel, together perfectly. The simple red embroidery complements the design of the flannel, while not overpowering it.

Many of the articles of clothing shown, are mainly solid. Adding a detailed and bright flannel, like this, captures peoples’ attention. (And what fashion loving person doesn’t want to make a statement, am I right?) It is important to note that the bright-colored clothing is located in the center of the body. This draws attention to the focal point of the look, and provides a well balanced, eye pleasing outfit.

Though it feels like summer weather should be here, the temperatures are still unpredictable, especially on the East Coast. Be prepared for whatever this life throws at you, and slide into the summer months with style.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Make It Your Own

To the average college student, the month of May means balancing the stress of finals week, Justin Timberlake memes, moving out of your apartment or dorm, and saying goodbye to the pals you made this semester. In the midst of all this craziness, it’s nice to treat yourself to an outing with friends.

This Fashionista found herself going to brunch with friends on a rainy day, so she pulled this outfit together with comfort in mind. The key to making simplicity go from drab to fab is accessorizing! My favorite aspect of this look is the layered chokers. Choker necklaces are so in right now, and the single pearl adds just the right amount of minimalist vibes to this outfit. It’s obvious this Fashionista is no stranger to playing around with accessories, and I encourage you to follow in her footsteps. Try playing around with layering various lengths, or, if you’re like me, buy a spool of cord at your local craft store and tie one for yourself. I like to experiment with different knots (Boy Scouts unite).

As we all know, there’s nothing like slipping into your favorite pair of blue jeans, as they are quite possibly the most all-around piece of clothing a girl can have. This Fashionista rocks a pair of denim jeans rolled over a pair of boots. I like these boots because they can be worn year-round in every season. She finished the outfit by throwing on a cardigan over a peplum top to combat the rainy day. By the way, I am loving peplum—so chic!

You should never underestimate the power of wearing jeans and a T-shirt. As one of the most timeless looks, it’s easy to put your own spin on an outfit. Think of it as a canvas. Art major or not, paint away!

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Floral Accents

I can’t express how happy I am that summer is approaching! Classes and finals are coming to a close and I love nothing more than being able to walk around campus in a pair of shorts! I’ve been wearing and styling jeans for the past five months or so; because of this, it’s not easy to transition into styling shorts. Therefore, you can guess my excitement at spotting this Fashionista who knew exactly how to style her summer look, all the way down to the details.

The first thing that grabbed my attention on this Fashionista is her high-waist shorts, of course! They are a bit unconventional because they zip at the sides instead of the front! It makes for a really interesting detail and helps draw visual lines down her body overall making them very flattering. The blue hue of the denim is paired nicely with a subtle purple top. This Fashionista tucked the top into her shorts to make it ruffle a bit at her waist. This detail brings a feminine and sort of upbeat vibe that is perfect for summer. It’s also a detail that I never have even given thought to doing! I love it! Her light jacket has bold flowers printed all over it, which compliment the color of her top excellently. Overall, this detail balances the look by bringing some visual weight to the upper half of her body. Not only that super chic, but it also contributes to an overall summer theme.

It’s clear that this Fashionista took the time to consider each and every detail. She styled her shorts perfectly and totally inspired me to pay closer attention to details in my wardrobe! Now, I’m looking forward to many warm days full of wearing shorts and not worrying about school! Summer, here I come!

ALL IN THE DETAILS: 24 Karat Magic

It’s finally summer, and with the transition to a new season comes a lot of other transitions. I will be transitioning soon to my first house off-campus in New Orleans. Grads are transitioning to life after college. With the high-speed nature of the summer, with event after event, it’s easy to get in a style rut and wear simple outfits all the time. This Fashionista mastered the art of turning a simple ensemble of jeans and a white top into the perfect going out look with the use of a few gold accessories.

To start off the look, this Fashionista paired classic dark wash jeans with a breezy white halter top, similar to this one. This top is perfect for New Orleans because the open back keeps you looking and feeling cool. When I am getting ready in the summer, I have often stopped right there; I pair jeans with a black or white top and forget to accessorize. Our Fashionista went the extra mile and took this look from plain to perfection.

Let’s go from the top down. The first gold detail that this Fashionista added to her look was a gold hoop earring. Regina George may claim that hoop hearings are her thing, but this Fashionista demonstrates how easy and effortless it is to rock hoop earrings. My favorite part of the entire look is the necklace. This lariat necklace is so versatile because it is one long chain. You can wrap it, knot it, and layer it to get your desired look.

To finish off the look, this Fashionista added a Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag and metallic gold wedges. This look transitioned from simple to sassy with the addition of a few gold details. When you’re in outfit limbo this summer, and can’t think of the right way to finish things off, just add some 24 karat magic to spice things up.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: Cuffs and Embroidery

Finals are finally coming to an end and that means that summer is right around the corner! With it being May, sometimes the weather can be unpredictable. The rain could be completely ruining your visibility (and your hair) one minute and then the suns could be kissing your skin the next minute. One of the best ways to prepare for this questionable weather is to wear cropped clothing. Roll up your jeans for a cute cuffed look or wear three-quarter length sleeves and some cute bracelets or your favorite watch. Now that I am back from Madrid, I am dealing with the bipolar temperatures and weather of Minnesota. But I want to get out and enjoy the lakes, the iced coffee, the sunsets, and the ice cream, so all of us Fashionistas out here need to prepare for the best (and for the worst).

This Fashionista knows exactly how to dress for the unpredictable spring weather! Cuffed jeans, cute sneakers, and a lightweight black shirt. What better things to wear for walks by the Minnesota lakes and trips to Excelsior to indulge in coffee ice cream at Lick’s Ice Cream Shop? The sneakers allow you to walk all day and enjoy the weather while allowing constant comfort while the jeans with the patterned belt add some cute details and a summer flare.
You can get this Fashionistas great look by getting yourself a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a lightweight black top, a cute embroidered belt, and some stylish sneakers. Enjoy your summers, Fashionistas, and I’ll see you next semester!

ALL IN THE DETAILS: A Perfect Formal Look

Do you ever get really excited to dress up for an event but then realize your outfit falls short? It’s normal to feel like your favorite dress or outfit is missing something. The key to a perfect formal look is making sure you have the right accessories. You can take a more casual dress or jumpsuit and add more glam by adding the perfect touches. Nude heels pair well with almost any outfit and will instantly dress a look up. They are definitely a wardrobe staple in anyone’s closet. With chokers being all the rage these days, you can find dressier ones at so many stores for an inexpensive price. Chokers help make an outfit less boring. Rather than a regular crossbody bag or a backpack, a clutch will instantly take your outfit from daytime casual to dressy night out.

This Fashionista photographed wore a jumpsuit for her formal plans, and the great thing about jumpsuits is their versatility! Jumpsuits can be worn to a lunch with your mom or on a night out with the girls, depending on how it’s styled. This jumpsuit in particular is neat because of its crossover straps. Also, nothing is easier than a jumpsuit; all you have to do is throw it on and you’re set. One and done. Nothing makes you feel more like a boss than a good jumpsuit.

However, just remember that as long as you rock any look with confidence, you will feel good. Confidence will always be your best accessory.

ALL IN THE DETAILS: One Step Into Graduation

It’s time for photos, memories, packing, and celebrating. It’s graduation time at the Mount and this Fashionista is ready for her diploma and to make her way into the real world! Yeah, you may be wearing a cap and gown all day, but who says you can’t wear the cutest accessories to show off your style all day?

This Fashionista wears a white long sleeve dress for under her graduation gown, complete with a lace detail that dresses it up! Not to mention, it’s lightweight, so perfect for the long day ahead.

What tops off her outfit, however, are her accessories. Mount St. Mary’s University’s colors are blue and white, so this grad perfectly represents the Mount on her big day! On graduation day, arguably the most important part of the outfit is the shoes. Some parents use shoes to identify their child from a distance in the crowd, and the grads realize it’s the only real piece of their outfit that is visible the whole day! This Fashionista’s shoes set her one step ahead of the rest! She wears navy blue lace up chunky heels for the special occasion. Cute and comfortable!

Finally, she keeps her jewelry clean and simple by adding a few chain bracelets to wear at the bottom of her dress sleeve. This balances and complements the large piece of jewelry on her hand—the class ring. This chunky class ring draws attention to her newly done manicure and shows off her school pride on the best day possible!

Graduation day may be one of the most photographed days of your life, so although your outfit may not show much, spice it up with the cutest accessories you can find. They’ll set you apart from the hundreds or thousands of other students wearing the same colored gowns in the crowd.
