CollegeFashionista X AEO: Freshman 15, Day 13

Denim can be a tricky thing to wear in Florida. The abrasive, sticky heat is something that you learn to get used to in the sunshine state, but you never really forget about it – especially if you’re wearing a pair of jeans. However, going back to school means that fall is just around the corner and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t invest in a good pair of jeans, perfect for any number of outfits.

I styled this pair of American Eagle Outfitters denim for a typical, Floridian afternoon when rain is inevitable and the humidity is intense. When wearing jeans, you want to make sure that you pair them with a top that is on the lighter side. This not only balances out the look, but also allows you to stay cool in the 80 and 90-degree heat. I paired my jeans with this deep coral, peplum top because it adds a touch of class and trendiness to a simple pair of denim. Not to mention, it still remains breezy enough for the heat. However, the feature of the top I really love is that the shape of the blouse is perfect for adding my favorite accessory – a statement necklace.

Accessories can turn any simple outfit into something chic and versatile for a variety of occasions. I love pairing statement necklaces with simple T-Shirts and dresses. It is the perfect way to instantly change up an outfit. This was the case with this outfit as well. I added the chunky, turquoise necklace to complement both the color and shape of the blouse.

Finally, I added my beloved Hunter rain boots to complete the look. Florida is known for intense and sudden thunderstorms, and it is always good to be prepared to stay dry and look stylish at the same time. My black Hunter’s are an accessory I love to pair with dresses or skirts on rainy days, but they also work very well with denim. Not to mention, the boots save them from puddles at the same time; nothing is worse than a great pair of jeans with a soggy hem.

Tip: Never forget to check the weather forecast before heading to class and be sure to invest in a good pair of rain boots for those stormy days! You’ll be happy you can stay dry and look stylish while doing so.
