CollegeFashionista: What is the most rewarding part of your job at Seventeen?

Marissa Rosenblum: I love working for the reader. She is so fun and inspiring!

CF: As Senior Fashion Market Editor, what do you think is most important for teens to remember as they explore their personal style?

MR: Take chances. Your teen years are time for exploration and finding your style. Try out something new every day and push the boundaries. By doing this you’ll figure out what makes you stand out in a way that feels good.

CF: What part of your day do you look forward to the most?

MR: I enjoy going on market appointments which is when I get to see all the newest clothes for next season. I also enjoy coming to the office and grabbing coffee and chatting with the fashion team in the morning. Not quite work related. But fun! The fashion team at Seventeen is really close so I look forward to going to work in general which an added bonus to the job.

CF: Is there a trend you're dying to wear this summer?

MR: I’ve been wearing a lot of silk shorts which is new for me. Normally I’m more of a skirt and dress dress girl but I got a pair of Keds Original silk scalloped floral shorts from Opening Ceremony and I’m hooked on the sweet slightly retro vibe of shorts. Plus they’re great with flats, heels and sneakers so they’re perfect for running around the city during the day parties at night, and bicycle riding on the weekends.

CF: What is the most challenging part of your job?

MR: The most challenging part of my job is getting into our reader heads. Editing for a large market that constantly changes with trends that come and go in a heartbeat takes a lot of thinking. What does she want now, next… What could we show her that she doesn’t know about and will love… These are questions that are constantly going through my mind as I edit stories, pull clothes for shoots and pitch new ideas.

CF: Do you have any predictions for back-to-school or fall 2012 trends to look out for?

MR: I think that the monochrome look will trickle down from the runway whether its the obvious all black or pastel look that has been trending or more daring all red. Anything that has to do with color because color evokes mood which is important to teens. Also excited by all things athletic and mixing sporty items with fashion forward pieces.
