CollegeFashionista X ASOS: George Washington University

Back to school means a fresh start. To me, it’s synonymous with fashion. September is the month that sets the tone for the rest of the year in the fashion industry with New York Fashion Week as well as every notorious September issue of magazines (cough, Vogue).

Every fall I try to come back to school with a fresh new look (I’m not talking reinventing myself like Madonna) but something a little different before I retreat to monochromatic for winter.  Right now I’m feeling long printed tunics over pants (perhaps Prada a la fall 2012) so immediately when I saw this ASOS AFRICA tunic in Mombasa print I knew it was the one.  I love a good tribal print and this black, green and purple felt right as we transition from summer to fall. Additionally, I’ve been on the hunt for camel colored jeans since I can’t even remember when – I thought to myself these would go perfectly with the chaotic printed tunic, adding a more subdued touch to such a bold look.  But then of course when I saw the flamingo pink heels, I couldn’t resist.

There’s something really sexy and cool about an ankle strap – it was a done deal.  I’m a believer in the notion that shoes can make an outfit.  In fact, I believe they do just that in this case and here is why.

After the fact, I noticed that my tunic had neon trim around the collar, which really enabled the shoe to take the show away and tie my whole ASOS ensemble together.
