CollegeFashionista X DOVE Advertorial: Great Style Effect, Sarah Wasilak

It’s holiday time! It seems my schedule is never more packed then these few weeks. From holiday parties to end of the year gatherings, I am constantly having to look my best. The best accessory to any holiday ensemble is statement worthy hair. But how often do you spend a bunch of time blow drying, teasing and curling to get big, holiday waves only to walk out the door with a deflated style?

Our friends over at Dove have a solution. The key to long-lasting style is nourished hair. Dove® Style+Care™ nourishes and protects for long-lasting style with new Nutri-Style Complex, a unique blend of Micro Moisture Serum and styling polymers. So what does that mean? Style+Care™ cares for hair, making hair manageable and easy to style for touchably soft and long lasting styled hair. My personal favorite is the Dove® Style+Care™ Thermal Replenishment Spray. This spray nourishes and helps protect hair from the heat of my blow dryer, curling iron and straightener.

CollegeFashionista: What is your biggest hair challenge?

Sarah Wasilak: My biggest hair challenge is definitely regarding LENGTH. I can never figure out what cut I like the best. As soon as I get my hair done, I always want to go back right away to get it restyled. I actually have an appointment on Saturday and I'm going for a short look, right to
the shoulders. I've tried everything, though – from straight across bangs to the side sweep to layers and the classic face frame – and I'm constantly craving change!

CF: What three words best describe your hair?

SW: My hair is thick, wavy and relaxed.

CF: What  do  you  look  for  when  seeking  a  great  hairstyle  for  yourself? And where do you go for style inspiration?

SW: I tend to wear my hair down instead of up, but it usually takes me awhile to warm up to new styles. In other words, I stick to a certain
hairdo for a little while and then I switch it up. When I decide I want to change the way my hair looks, it’s usually because I’ve seen a
celebrity sporting a new color or cut more than once. I usually print out a picture and bring it into my hair stylist. Because I’m not great at hair, sometimes she has to explain to me that the thickness or length of my locks won’t work well with my newly coveted style, but over time I’ve learned what looks best. I also love searching on Pinterest or The Beauty Department blog for inspiration.

CF: How would you describe the hairstyle you have today?

SW: I get bored with straight hair – it often looks really flat or even greasy. Because I love a little body, I like to make waves and then straighten the ends. Everyone always asks me how I get my hair to look this way, but it’s really simple. I used a wand to create a lot of volume and then I slept on it over night. When I woke up, I ironed my bangs for control around my face frame and then flattened the ends. I think the look is really beachy and gives off the illusion of longer locks.

CF: What is your best hair styling tip?

SW: Over-style your hair so that it’s either super curly or super straight and then sleep on it over night. In the morning it will look perfect as long as you don’t run a brush through it—if you’re going for the straight look, it’ll have a little bit more body so it won’t look flat, and if you want waves, it won’t look too wild.
