Technology is the centerpiece of most college students life, especially a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. Besides essays, midterms, and the other demands on college life, our Style Gurus use their technology to capture images of trendsetting Fashionistas/os, research trends, and report on how their classmates can recreate their looks. Enjoy our Q&A with University of Pennsylvania Style Guru Monika Haebich as she discusses balancing style, technology, and finding inspiration on her campus.
CollegeFashionista: Tell us where you are from, how old you are and what your major at Penn is?
Monika Haebich: I am eighteen years old, studying English at the University of Pennsylvania, and I am from New York.
CF: Describe your outfit and what you are wearing?
MH: I’m wearing a shredded white collared shirt from Rich and Skinny, a pair of red shorts, my favorite pair of Melissa Shoes X Vivienne Westwood shoes and some of my usual arm candy.
CF: How do you take this outfit from day to night?
MH: I would probably swap out the red shorts for a pair of faux leather pants, un-tuck the shirt and keep the shoes! I love mixing girly and edgy elements, so whenever I wear these shoes I try to wear another piece to balance how over-the-top and cute they look.
CF: How important are accessories in your daily wardrobe?
MH: Accessories are absolutely essential to my daily wardrobe, and the clothes I wear would look so boring without them! I tend to wear a lot of black, which can appear repetitive, so playing with various accessories is often what really differentiates my day to day look. I also just started making my own iPhone cases and studding them in different colors, so I always have an iPhone case to match my outfit!
CF: How do you stay connected with CollegeFashionista on the go?
MH: I could never leave home without my phone, and I read the website every morning on my commute. I am also absolutely in love with CollegeFashionista’s Instagram and Pinterest pages, and I find myself liking and repining almost everything that goes up!
CF:What inspires you in Philadelphia around campus?
MH: Philly is home to some amazing art museums, and every time I enter one, I am increasingly impressed and inspired. Music has also always been one of my biggest sources of inspiration, and I’m so grateful to attend school in city that attracts such talented musicians. Apart from that, Penn’s Fashionistas are always inspiring me! I love seeing people experiment with fashion, and Penn students are always surprising me.
