Hearts and flowers may have been the main attention this month, but a way to change it up is by adding bows into your life. Bows have been around for quite some time, and they are a recurring trend that you see in about everything you can imagine. If you remember recently, Blair Waldorf took the stance on bow headbands and looked cute as a bow. Other places you may have seen it are bow belts and accessories such as earrings or necklaces. The categories are endless, but here’s one that can add a twist to an outfit: the bowtie.
The bowtie was a staple that Brad Goreski wore constantly on The Rachel Zoe Project. His proper style is reminiscent of something you would find in The Great Gatsby or for the ladylike appeal, on the runway of Yves Saint Laurent spring 2011 collection. From big bows to slouchy or puffed up material, you can make sure to keep some bows in that closet of yours.
This Fashionista was found sporting a white button-up from Gap paired with a vintage bowtie from Butter Toast Boutique, and a sequined skirt from Forever 21. To finish off this look, she spiced it up with a pair of black knee-high socks and red heels from BCBG, which matched perfectly with her bowtie. The red in this outfit is what makes it stand out.
Hint: If you would like to remake this outfit, you can find several bowties at American Apparel and choose your favorite color. If you want to stick to sequins and be festive, Haute Hippie has a great one that you can pair with a button down blouse by DKNY. If you want to be a little more casual, you can pair it with your favorite pair of jeans and heels. Just remember that whatever you choose, you can still click your heels by adding that little bit of color to make your outfit pop. Spring may have a lot of nudes, but color is also something to look out for.
