FASHION NEWS: Make a Little Holiday Cheer

This may not be headline news in the fashion world, but in a poor, college student's world, it tops my front page. As we hit December and I begin to worry about scrounging up money for over-priced gifts, I had an idea. Make the gift. Of course not just any gift though, make something one-of-a-kind and wearable, something chic and affordable. I’ve become incredibly intrigued with DIY (or do-it-yourself) websites as of late. I thought this holiday season I’ll save myself from the hustle and bustle of mall-goers and create couture (or at least my version). Besides, who doesn’t like a little vintage? Since I’ll be interning at Ralph Lauren over winter break, I thought I would give myself some previous practice with designing and creating before I jumped in the with the big guys and their polos.

I’ve narrowed down a few great ideas that offer step-by-step instructions on how to create masterpieces of clothing and accessories for even the design-impaired:

1. A lace bow headband- put together by one of my favorite sites, psimadethis.com, you can channel a little Lady Gaga (minus the hair extensions) for a holiday party.

2. Eye-catching patchwork- as easy as one, two, three! Take a shirt you really don’t wear anymore and spruce it up with some stylish appliques. Follow the instructions at Fashionista.

3. Shoe revamps- check out this DIY for an old pair of cowboy boots or Keds. You wont be disappointed with the quick tips to flash forward them to in the now..

It’s the gift that keeps on giving. Make these for your friends, family, or yourself and you’ll definitely be spreading some holiday cheer to a near and dear Fashionista.

Style On,

Christine
