The man who is infamous for his unique, exotic, and sometimes controversial, shoes has passed away at age 40. Alexander McQueen was found dead in his home February 11, 2010. Speculation around his death has raised questions of suicide, but the media was requested to not press talk of suicide in respect for the family. His death follows only a little over a week after the death of his mother, which left him deeply saddened and depressed (as was reflected in his Twitter updates). Alexander McQueen, born as Lee McQueen in 1969, was the youngest of 6 children. Although he was a highschool dropout, he had become one of the rising names in fashion before age 30. Before launching his own line, McQueen worked for Givenchy, Gucci, and MAC designing perfumes, shoes, and cosmetics. His death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week. His newest designs were rumored to be unveiled in Paris Fashion Week, coming up in March. His newest line, McQ, was set to be released the morning of his death as part of New York Fashion Week.
McQueen was a favorite of many A-List celebrities, especially Lady Gaga and Kate Moss. He is survived by his loved ones, family, friends, fans, passion, and art.
Will his label live on? I can only hope the runway continues to be filled with the inspirational work of McQueen.
