The grunge movement and intricate details are in full gear this season. Grunge styles are back and have become the tough-girl approach to layering in cold weather. This season’s intricate details like studs and jewels are not just part of an outfit, but are also standout finishes. With these fall trends in mind, this Fashionista is inspired by plaid prints and studs, which are some of the hottest styles on campus.

Name: Alix Scharf

Major: Undecided

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Alix Scharf: I am wearing black leggings with a plain white tank top. I am also wearing a plaid shirt with studs from a store near me called Mixology and black quilted Dr. Martens boots.

CF: As winter is approaching, what are your essentials for the cold weather?

AS: Funny enough, I like winter more than summer! I love to layer up with comfy circle scarves and headbands to keep warm.

CF: Who are your style icons/inspirations?

AS: I don’t necessarily have a style icon. However, I get my inspiration from the latest trends I find online or in stores.

CF: How would you describe your style?

AS: My style consists of wearing black leggings, or jeans, and a comfy sweater. Generally, I wear patterned sweaters with whites, blacks and grays, but I also love throwing in some color from time to time.

How To: Incorporating grunge and stylish embellishments to your wardrobe is easy. As it is getting colder, look for sweaters and long sleeves like this one by RAILS. With studded shoulder pads in a dark gray wash it would look great with black coated leggings or denim. Top this outfit off with lace-up booties to complete your look.
