FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Brigid Phillips

Whenever I see band patches and American flags paired together, I feel nostalgic because it takes me straight back to the ’90s. Her outfit made me go back to a time where grunge fashion and music thrived. But her backpack made me think of the loud amazing colors from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The combination of the two made me so giddy. Let this Fashionista take your back to a time where individuality, grunge and loud colors thrive.

Name: Brigid Phillips

Major: English

Year: Sophmore

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your fashion?

Brigid Phillips: I’m pretty individualistic and I really like to experiment with clothing.

CF: What are you wearing?

BP: My backpack is from ebags.com. My vest was a hand me down, I personalized it by sewing patches on it. My capris and shoes are hand me downs as well.

CF: You personalize your own clothing?

BP: Yeah, I really like sewing. I put my own band patches and logos on a lot of my clothing.

CF: What trends on campus do you like?

BP: I love vintage clothing. I also like floral and retro style dresses. As you can tell I like the punk rock style too, because of the patches on jackets and combat boots.

CF: Who is your fashion icon?

BP: Kara Fey from Shiny Toy Guns and Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine.

CF: Where do you like to shop?

BP: I really like vintage shops like Vintage Vogue, Cactus flower and Goodwill.

CF: Do you have any advice for the readers?

BP: Don’t be afraid to get crazy with your outfits. Don’t try to dress yourself based on what you think other people would like. Style yourself based on your own personality.

How To: To make this look your own you just need to grab your favorite vest from your closet, pair your vest with some neutral capris and a fitted shirt underneath. Then grab your favorite backpack and pair of Converse sneakers. Don’t forget to put your own personal touches on your outfit! You can either put your band patches on your outfit or you can accessorize it in your own way!
