FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Catalina Graziano

While walking through the Irvine Spectrum this Fashionista’s unique look grabbed my attention. She balances the feminine elements of her outfit with a classic pair of Dr. Martens and adds a fun graphic tee for an ensemble all her own. With chic, round sunglasses and a touch of color on her lips, this stylish Australian (yes she’s from Australia, and yes her accent is awesome) flaunts her personality around California while visiting family.

Name: Catalina Graziano

Major: Zoology

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How is American fashion different from Australian fashion?

Catalina Graziano: I think you’re allowed to do a little bit more alternative things if you’re mostly in the big cities in Australia, but in the country towns it’s a lot more relaxed.

CF: What fashion do you like better?

CG: I like anything quirky, a little bit off the reservation I guess.

CF: How would you describe your style in three words?

CG: Pop culture, gaming and quirky.

CF: Does gaming affect your style?

CG: I’d like to think so; gaming and Dr. Who are two of my big influences. I like bow ties, I like suspenders—a lot of quirky things like that.

CF: Have you noticed one trend here that you really love that hasn’t made it to Australia yet?

CG: Not so much lately because we’ve had a lot more I guess international influences coming across now that we’ve got countrywide stores that are available. So all the big fashions in Melbourne and Sydney are still available in sort of the smaller towns. And what influences Melbourne and Sydney are global trends.

How To: Adapt this look to suit your own personality. Simply choose a graphic tee that says something about you, what you like or perhaps something you find humorous. For a feminine look like this Fashionista, pair the tee with a high-waisted skirt, assuring your waist is accentuated to create an hourglass figure. If you want to toughen up the skirt, wear a pair of rugged boots instead of sandals or flats. To achieve a more casual feel, opt for high-waisted cut-offs and whatever shoes you wish. Follow this Australian Fashionista’s lead and allow your personality and interests to influence your outfit for a look that will turn heads in different countries.
