I love a great jacket, probably a little too much. This is most likely evident to my very patient flatmates. They are very patient because I am supposed to be sharing the downstairs cloak closet but they don’t seem to be able to find any room for their things. And yesterday I brought a new one. I couldn’t help it. It’s long to my knees, cashmere and wool blend with a faux fur collar and some strong 1940s shoulder shaping. It was love at first sight.

Name: Charmion Sno Whyte

Year: Sophomore

Major: Bachelor of Design (Communication)

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where did you get if from?

Charmion Sno Whyte: I can’t really afford big brands so I just pick up my clothes from all over the place. I like supporting Australian owned and designed clothing and jewellery stores. This outfit is from Op shops and charity such as the Brotherhood of Saint Lawrence and online. I just picked up the leather jacket a couple of days ago at Brotherhood for $50—I haven’t been able to take it off since.

CF: Why do you love it?

CW: Just because it’s comfortable and warm.

CF: Worst purchase ever made and why?

CW: I used to be really into layering—it was kind of stupid. So I’d buy all these different coloured singlets and them wear one over the other over the other, it wasn’t a good look.

CF: Where do you like to shop?

CW: I don’t really have much time to shop these days. But my parents did just open up a store in Port Melbourne, Mister White, I work in there to help out so I’m often ‘paid’ with things from the store, like this necklace.

How To: Everyone should have in their wardrobe a great leather jacket they can call on, a favourite jersey dress, some quirky jewellery and a satchel bag to swing over your shoulder.
