FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Chrystelle Paul

No, you’re not seeing double! For those of you who follow my posts closely, you may notice that this outfit looks fairly similar to an earlier outfit featured on a Fashionisto around the 4th of July. As I detailed in that article, decking yourself out in red, white and blue isn’t necessarily reserved for only the patriotic holidays. This Fashionista’s outfit is a perfect example of how to incorporate the classic combination after all the fireworks have ended. The UMass sophomore shows off her color-blocking skills as well. Color-blocking is a great trend to follow and try if you tend to have a lot of solids in your closet. Solids are a safe bet for longevity and neutrality, but they can be fun and impressive when mixed together to create fun combinations. This Fashionista pairs hot red pants with the classic strips on top, and adds color-blocking with a lighter purse and gold jewelry.

Name: Chrystelle Paul

Major: Pre-med

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?

Chrystelle Paul: I like to wear clothes that are classic, comfortable and show femininity without being over done or overstated…Basically, I try to keep it modern, yet timeless and classy. I want to be able to look back and still like an outfit I wore years ago.

CF: What is your favorite accessory?

CP: Earrings and necklaces!

CF: Speaking of accessories, your cross-body purse is super cute. What do you carry in your purse at all times?

CP: Lip gloss! And my phone and I.D.

CF: What’s your favorite summer trend?

CP: Tribal print. And I’m definitely feeling the high-waisted trend.

How To: The color-blocking trend couldn’t be easier to follow. It can pretty much be achieved just by pulling solids from your closet and putting them on. It’s effortless, but looks so chic. The key is solids, solids, solids. This can be a great opportunity to try out some trendy pieces, like a high-low skirt in a cool blue green. For the top, a great place for cute solid items is American Apparel. They sell almost exclusively solids in any piece of clothing you could imagine. A cute crop top in a bright color is a widely recognized American Apparel staple and shows a sexy sliver of skin. If you’re a little iffy about combining colors on your own, it’s good to use an accessory to take a hint from. These cute neon flats are color-blocked all on their own, and prove that the blue and yellow look cute together. It’s like validation for your whole outfit; not that you’ll need to when you look this fabulous!
