As soon as you think you have the trends down for the season, weather and trends change! As college students, we already have so much on our plates that it’s hard for us change our whole look every season. But there are just some trends that you cannot pass up. So, you may find yourself asking some important questions like: How do I incorporate my own style in my outfits while I adopt the trends I absolutely love each season? How do I get the most out of my favorite trending pieces, especially when the weather at IU seems to always be rapidly changing? Well don’t worry, because this Fashionista has all the answers to your important questions.

Name: Kristin Truelove

Major: Apparel Merchandising

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?

Kristin Truelove: I’m wearing a tribal print maxi skirt from Charlotte Russe and pairing it with a black tank top. I’m accessorizing my skirt with a long pink bubble necklace and a black belt: both from Charlotte Russe. I’m finishing my outfit off with a pair of black sandals from Tilly’s.

CF: What is your inspiration for your outfit today?

KT: The “Charlotte girl.” I actually work for Charlotte Russe and love the typical shoppers’ look.

CF: What are your favorite stores to shop at?

KT: I love shopping at Charlotte Russe, LuLu’s, TOBI and Urban Outfitters. I have a shopping addiction, I really love ALL stores.

CF: Who is your fashion Icon?

KT: I love Emma Watson‘s style. She always looks so chic, sophisticated, classy and cute!

CF: What are your favorite fall trends?

KT: Well, my favorites don’t just pertain to just this fall. I always love the classic scarves and boots. But I really like the oversized sweaters and printed tights this season.

CF: If you could trade closets with anyone for the day, who would it be?

KT: I would love to trade closets with my manager at Charlotte Russe.

CF: Do you have any advice for our readers?

KT: It’s fun to follow trends, but it’s also important to have your own signature style. Tribal prints are actually near and dear to my heart and I love adding risk. Whenever I style my outfit, I make sure I pick one piece that is risky and today that’s my statement necklace.

How To: You too can stay trendy while being true to your own personal style. Pick two or three staple statements from your past looks. Try taking some of your favorite parts of these looks and pair some of those things with the new trends you see each season. You’ll be able to bring out your inner Fashionista while you have fun with the new trends. But if you want to recreate this look, you can do so by pairing a tank top with a tribal maxi slit skirtpink bubble necklace and a belt just like this Fashionista. But don’t worry, because maxi skirts are very versatile and can even be worn when the weather gets a bit chillier. Just grab your favorite maxi skirt and pair it with a cute jacket and shirt. You’ll be rocking the campus in maxi-mum style!
