I, like most people, associate bright colors with summer. This season, I have been seeing cheerful, highlighter tones on the streets of Los Angeles. The most popular hue I’ve spotted is orange. Someone told me the other day that orange is the new pink. Well, the way that this Fashionista is pulling off this very vivid tank top mixed with her beachy bohemian vibe, I’d say I quite like this new trend!

CollegeFashionista: What do you like to wear during the summertime?
Riley Bryson: My go-to outfit is usually shorts and a tank with a sweater or flowy T-shirt. But always, always shorts.
CF: How would you describe your style?
RB: I would describe my style as casual, comfy and somewhat bohemian. Comfort trumps all.
CF: What is one item in your closet that you cannot live without?
RB: In the summer, it would be my denim shorts with lace cutouts. Overall though, it’s my Lucky Brand knee-high boots.
CF: What are you looking forward to for the summertime?
RB: I am looking forward to a trip to Kauai with my two best friends! Also, my first half marathon and the usual summer activities: bonfires, game nights and get-togethers with friends.
CF: What trends are you into this season?
RB: I am noticing a comeback with tie-dyed clothing. I recently got a tie-dyed sweater from Urban Outfitters but because the tones are more muted gray and navy colors, I can wear it with pretty much anything. I love it!
How To: Do you dare to take on highlighter shades? Although it seems like a daunting task, this Fashionista shows us the perfect way to pull these brilliant colors off. The key is to pair it with neutral colors, which allows the hue to pop. To get this look, try mixing a bright tank top with your favorite jean shorts and a comfy cardigan.
