On a dreary day like this one, I thought that the only fashion I would find on campus would be in the Vogue I brought with me to my marketing class. Luckily for me, I was wrong. Stepping out in a perfect combination of neutrals, this vintage queen gave me a little bit of insight into her wardrobe.

Name: Alex Riley

Year: Senior

Major: Apparel Merchandising/Fashion Design

College Fashionista: Alex, tell me your favorite item in your closet.

Alex Riley: Actually the boots on my feet. I bought them at a vintage store back home my senior year of high school. I’ve paired them with so many outfits. I’ve even gone to the trouble of having them resoled. They’ll be a part of my wardrobe for quite some time.

CF: Who do you look to for fashion inspiration?

AR: I am a very observant person. I gather inspiration from all over! I gather it from peers, blogs, designers and fashion icons. People inspire me regularly to try different outfits with confidence.

CF: What is your favorite place to shop?

AR: I am a bargain shopper! I love to shop at thrift stores to find cheap, unique, sometimes grandma-like clothing. I may wear an item a few times and donate it back. Quite a cycle!

How To: To be a true vintage queen like Alex, check out a couple of the vintage stores around campus. If you’re like a lot of people, you probably think shopping vintage is too time consuming. If that’s the case, you can recreate this look by pairing this simple two pocket shirt with these black skinny jeans—both from Gap. On a chilly day like this one, you’ll also need a cozy scarf. Finally, complete your look with these Urban Renewal cowboy boots and you’ll be your own vintage masterpiece!
