Come what may in fashion fads and crazes, a feminine look is always in vogue. Feminine touches to an outfit are especially effective when they build upon current trends. This week’s Fashionista, Allie Reese, skillfully and gracefully executed such a look. Her lace patterned shirt and skirt are timeless pieces which she paired well with her trendier wide, high-waisted belt and boots with knee socks. An avid CollegeFashionista reader, Allie attributes much of her style savvy to scouring the CF website regularly.
Name: Allie Reese
Major: Undeclared
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: How did you update your wardrobe over winter break?
Allie Reese: I’ve been layering even more so than usual lately — concentrating on skirts and shorts with tights to warm them up. I got a lot of coats over Thanksgiving sales that work well for layering. I also got a bunch of pullover sweaters to layer over dresses.
CF: What are your favorite winter clothing items?
AR: I really like this dusty pink pullover sweater I got from Urban Outfitters. I got a great green parka from Target that I like to use a lot; I like to layer button up shirts and cardigans. It makes for a great outer layer. And I really like my high socks.
CF: Where do you like to shop?
CF: Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 and I do a lot of online shopping. I got this skirt from Rouche. For shoes I like to go to DSW.
CF: How would you describe your style?
I like to contrast pieces with “girly stuff.” I like to think my style pleasantly weird. Over the past year I got a lot more conscious about what I wear. I really didn’t want to be the girl who went to college with the standard sweatshirt over leggings look; I wanted to put more effort into what I wear. I built up my wardrobe over the past year, so I'm doing the best with what I have collected and coming up with new combinations every day.
How To: Feminine garments are staples in a wardrobe and can help the CollegeFashionista break out of the standard college sweatshirt gear. Try these lovely lace shorts from Ruche, or Ruche's prima ballerina chiffon skirt. This delicate floral jumper from American Apparel is a perennial piece, and Forever 21’s draped ruched skirt is also very classic. To add some trendy sass to these feminine items, try this wide belt from Forever 21.
