FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Beth Maiman

Going home for winter break means adjusting your style to fit your hometown weather change, which this Fashionista accomplishes with a perfect ease. Going from the Oregon gloom to the shinning sun of southern California, Beth immediately whips out her floral-printed summer shorts that have been collecting dust in the back of her armoire for the past three months. Despite the fact the it is December, the winter coats and sweaters can be stowed away for the next month because Beth is inspired by summer pieces while still incorporating appropriate dark winter colors.

Name: Beth Maiman
Major: Journalism
Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Beth Maiman: American Eagle floral denim shorts, Pleione split neck roll sleeve top and Steve Madden boots.

CF: Whose style do you admire most?
BM: Michelle Williams, Jessica Biel and Emma Stone.

CF: What are your favorite things to wear at home that you can't wear in Oregon?
BM: My favorite things to wear in California would be sun dresses, shorts and floral skirts. I love to wear sun dresses to show my feminine side. Personally, I think a cute pair of shorts can easily make an outfit. Also, I love to wear floral skirts especially in the spring.

CF: How do you think your style defines your personality?
BM: I have always been a big sports fan and have always been into playing sports, so I feel like there is a little bit of “tom boy” that comes across in my style. I like the idea of knowing that I look cute and casual but also comfortable in case I want to be active. I would say my go-to clothing item is always a nice blouse that can be dressed up or down paired with a blazer. Also, I am obsessed with rompers! Basically anything that is comfortable while also being classy.

CF: What trend are you dying to try?
BM: I really want to try pulling off a pair of high waisted shorts. Also, I have a pair of oxfords that I hope to incorporate into my style more.

How To: To get Beth’s sun-inspired style, grab your favorite pair of printed shorts from the back of your closet. If it’s cold where you live layer a plain pair of opaque black tights under your shorts for warmth. An oversized black blouse allows this look to have more of a winter feel to it. The simpler the top the better, but back detailing always looks stylish; try finding a top that’s backless like this one from Shopbop. Wear beat-up leather combat boots and your favorite crossbody bag for a laid back vibe. Lastly, don’t forget the Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses — rain or shine, they always look chic.
