This week’s Fashionista has never considered herself very “fashionable,” yet her eclectic style continues to catch eyes around Fordham’s campus. Her seemingly natural ability to tie an outfit together with small details is certainly telling of an artistic streak in this stylish sophomore.
Donning a structured, velvet blazer over a summer lightweight dress, Carissa manages to combine the best of both seasons. Accented with a tangerine colored scarf and two-toned oxford shoes, her black and blue ensemble allows the accessories to do most of the talking. This Fashionista turns the typical autumn palette on its head by combining darks, neutrals and brights, making for a stylish smorgasbord perfect for the transition of seasons. To gain more insight into Carissa’s personal style, CollegeFashionista picked the Fashionista’s brain for inspiration:
Name: Carissa Avalos
Major: Double major in Political Science and International Studies
College Fashionista: What is your favorite trend past or present?
Carissa Avalos: The 1920’s. Flappers are my jam.
CF: Where do you usually find your style inspiration?
CA: I guess I find inspiration mostly on the street. I take bits and pieces from what I see and mold each into something of my own. I mix and match, I guess. So thank you, random strangers I see on the street!
CF: What is one item you can’t live without?
CA: My combat boots. Also, I’m a huge on my jean jacket – that comes in handy all the time.
CF: Do you have any fashion advice for college students in search of their own style?
CA: Do what feels right.
CF: What do you like most about fashion?
CA: I like that it is an easy way to show people a little bit about you. I also like that during the winter season wearing layers is both fashionable and practical.
CF: Has living in NYC influenced your style at all?
CA: Kind of. I came from San Francisco which is a totally different style, and now I find myself being brainwashed with this east coast street style. Now I am becoming like this hybrid of sorts, a mix of the two coasts.
CF: What is an addition you would like to make to your closet right now?
CA: Parachute pants because I’ve always wanted to shoot a rendition of camera time, but also because they look really comfortable and I think could work them.
