FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Carley Mayson

I'm always a fan of women who are brave with their fashion choices. I'm not talking about being creative necessarily, I'm talking about girls who can wear dresses in icy weather! This Fashionista is definitely someone to look up to. Not only can she aptly strut around in her high heels, she can wear a dress when it's pretty cold and windy outside. I think that deserves a round of applause. The oversized wool sweater (which I am a huge fan of) pairs wonderfully with the simple top and skirt and definitely brings out the color in this Fashionista's skirt. She also reminded me that spring is around the corner and florals are making a comeback. Finally!

Name: Carley Mayson

Major: English

Year: Third

CollegeFashionista: How do you choose your day-to-day outfits?

Carley Mayson: Honestly with day to day outfits I really look for comfort. I like a kind of boho mixed with rocker vibe. So I usually gravitate towards jeans, especially in my current climate, and I have a few cable knit sweaters that are staples and then it just depends on my mood for my shirt and shoes. If I am going for a super comfy day, I will resort to Uggs cause let's be honest, they feel like you are walking on a cloud.

CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?

CM: I have these ripped jeans I just got that I really love. Plus I got them at a consignment store for like two dollars so that helps.

CF: How do you take risks with fashion?

CM: Recently my risks with fashion have become smaller because I am more comfortable with myself and therefore my style. When I was still figuring out my personal style, wearing a romper would be a “risk.” I like to buy things second hand as much as I can for my wallet and to do my best to boycott sweatshops – so that can result in some ridiculous clothes. But I am at the point with my clothes that if I like it, I am going to wear it and either I will pull it off and feel awesome because I pulled off something so ridiculous, or have a really good laugh.

How To: Carley's look is pretty easy to achieve. Pair a simple black top with a floral skirt. Weather up with an oversized cable knit cardigan and throw on a cute pair of platform wedges. Now you're ready to strut your stuff!
