Alumni Hall is the home to all fashion majors on campus. Fashionistas and Fashionistos are constantly roaming through the white doors, preparing for a typical day in the classroom. There is no such thing as sweatpants to these students, unless they are the ever-popular and comfortable yoga pants from Victoria’s Secret and this Fashionista is no different. She loves comfort, but her own personal style truly shines through by mixing prints and colors. Similar to her style inspiration, Demi Lovato, she’s never afraid to step out of her comfort zone and try new styles. From her makeup to accessories, she always rocks the complete look.
Name: Carolyn Buch
Major: Fashion Design and Merchandising

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Carolyn Buch: My style is best described as a mix between girly and edgy. I love mixing and matching feminine pieces with bold, edgy ones to create a unique look. And I love anything studded or leopard print!
CF: What are your favorite stores to shop at?
CB: Some of my favorite stores to shop at are Forever 21 for trendy basics, Charlotte Russe, Urban Outfitters, H&M and ASOS.
CF: Who is your ultimate style icon?
CB: My ultimate style icon would have to be Demi Lovato for the way she always manages to pull off looking edgy, feminine and classy all in one. I also love that she isn't afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to her style.
CF: If you could go back in time, which time period in fashion would you visit and why?
CB: If I could go back in time I would love to visit during the '50s because I'm such a fan of their style. We all know the classy ladies of Mad Men and how well put together they look. I also love the '50s Pinup girl style and I would love to experience that. I also would love to be able to wear gloves and big hats again!
CF: What is your must-have item in your closet? Why?
CB: My two absolute must-have items in my closet would have to be a classic leather jacket and a pair of riding boots. A classic leather jacket in a neutral color can be layered on almost any outfit and make it look effortlessly chic. This is also a great transition piece from fall through spring, and can be worn with a sweater dress and tights in the winter and then layered over a sundress in the spring. A great pair of riding boots do just about the same thing, as they can also be worn many different ways and never go out of style.
CF: Which season gets you most excited about fashion?
CB: My favorite season in fashion would have to be spring. I love being able to still have a few layered pieces—such as a chunky scarf and tights—and not having to be all bundled up or dying of heat! I also love the pastel colors and floral prints that are so prevalent in spring.
How To: Want edge in your look like Demi and this Fashionista? First, start off with this basic black dress from Topshop. Then, find a sweater similar to this from ASOS to reflect the girly image both of these Fashionistas love. The high neck and no sleeves LBD adds that edge and glam-rock confidence they both exude. Take these shoes from Forever 21 and you will have a complete look from head to toe. Other style notes: accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
